Praveena Pillay a/p Sattiwadivit ( A163085 )
1/08/2021

2) What have you done?
I have decided to learn abit about sign language. The online course I have chosen not only teaches sign language but also abit of history and the laws surrounding sign language. So for Week 1 we started of by viewing videos about the instructor and basic sign language gestures of the ABCs.The instructor thought us on how to do proper hand gestures and also talked about some problems faced by the deaf community. At the end of the week we had a short quiz to test our knowledge on what we have learned on Week 1. It was more on general knowledge surrounding the sign language.

3) Points to remember from Week 1.
- sign language can be difficult because sometimes we need to spell out the words using hand gestures.
- ABCs has its own signal that I have to keep practising to master.
- some words like ‘HI ‘ and ‘ Thank You ‘ we don’t need to spell out , they have their own hand gestures.
- there are a lot of discrimination surrounding the deaf community and we need to be considerate when communicating with them.
- for those you can speak its ok to say the words as you use hand signal as those who cant hear can also read lips.

4) Your feelings and thoughts.
It was hard at first because I keep forgetting the hand signal for each letters and have to refer to the chart. But as I keep trying I was getting the hang of it. It was really satisfying learning a new method of communication. I hope to be able master this method of communication. The classes were very entertaining with music and pictures and also videos. It was easy to understand and so much fun to learn .

5) 1 good thing from what you did that you can practise now!
1 good thing that I learn is the hand signal for ABCs that I can start practising from now.

6) Any difficulties/concerns ? How did you cope?
I faced difficulty in hand signal for ABCs , as this is my first time ever learning sign language , I tend to forget the signals and keep having to refer. I will keep trying so that I can learn the signals without referring and also can be fast it sign language, as of now im still slow in gesturing as I have to spell out the words. I will keep practising to overcome this.

7) 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far.
- educative
- entertaining

8) Your plan for next week ( Week 2 )
The plan for next week is to improve the hand gestures and also to move on to learning phrases. They is a lot more to learn on the culture as well. So next week we will work more on ABCs and phrases and try to link them together to say sentences as in Week 1 we learn about words.

Thank you.

1. Siti Nur Aisyah binti Satar (A168118). 1st August 2021

2) What have you done?
This past 1 week, I had attend 2 personal classes for Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia via Skype. I've learned how to sign alphabets, numbers and how to spell using signs language in the 1st class. The subsequent class, I learn how to sign time, Malaysian states sign and colour. All in all, it went smoothly.

3) Points to remember for week 1!
Practice! This is vital especially with something that is new. Repetition is the key in making hand sign more smooth and make it more natural and confident in communicating.

4) My feelings & thoughts for this 1st week is proud in myself because I am able to understand and be more confident on communicating with strangers, even if it's online. I hope I can keep the confidence in real life conversations.

5) 1 good thing from what I did that I can practice now is ability to read peoples' facial expression. Seeing as communicating in sign language not only use their hand to communicate, their faces can also bring different meaning for the same sign.

6) Difficulties/concerns I have faced for this classes is the wifi connections. However, I managed to find alternative by purchasing back up hotspot data. Other than that, I found it hard to find friend to practice the signs with, however, there are a group of volunteers that help with revision after every class.

7) 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far would be interesting and beneficial.

8) My plan for week 2 would be to continue learning signs for feelings, verbs, religions and interrogatives.

1. Tong Yung Shuen, A167911, 4 July 2021

2. What have you done?
For the first week, as what I have proposed in the application form, I created an account on the website that I learn Korean. I took the level test provided to see which level should I start learning with. Although my result for the test was Level 6, but I decided to go through the PDFs from Level 1 to Level 5 to recall back the knowledge that I have learnt before.

3. Points to remember from week 1!
I'm glad that I decided to learn again starting from Level 1 because as I go through it I found that I have forgot a lot of stuffs, so it is a good chance for me revise back.

4. Your feelings & thoughts
I feel excited to have the chance to learn Korean again. Throughout this one week I have completed Level 1, but I am not satisfied with my speed and I plan to speed up so that I can reach Level 6 soon. Other than that, everything is fine.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!
There are some basic terms such as 'Good morning', 'Thank you', 'Sorry', numbers that I learnt and I am using it in my daily life to constantly remind myself about these words. Language is all about, see, listen and read out loud!

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
I don't have any difficulties so far. Hopefully everything is smooth for the next 3 weeks.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
Slow progress, but interesting.

8. Your plan for next week (Week 2)
If follows what I have planned, Week 3 I will be having our OSCE exam, so I have decided to postpone my elective posting for 2 weeks. This is so that I can focus my exam for the next two weeks. Another benefit is I don't need to divide my attention for elective posting and exam. I can just focus back on elective posting after my exam. Hence I will resume Week 2 on 19th of July.

1. Your name, matric number, date
Yazuan Shakqeen Bin Yaseri (A167963),Week 1 : 19th July-25th July

2. What have you done?
For my elective posting, I chose baking as my EP.Before this,i always interested in this field but lack of times exploring it due to hectic lifestyles as medical student.I decided to attend an online course on facebook page entitled “PJJ ANEKA KUIH MUIH & ASAS ROTI DAN PIZZA” .For the first week of EP,i will dedicate myself to watch some videos provided in this page to learn basic skills, knowledges and recipes. Most of recipes in there look good and delicious to taste but in the end,i decided to choose at least 3-5 recipes for my baking within third and fourth weeks of EP.

3. Points to remember from week 1!
I learn some points from watching some videos in this facebook page such as
- Baking requires us to make sure that ingredients are weighed out precisely because many unpredictable things can happen like too much flour make it become too chewy
- Timing is also very important because if i rush,it can damage the outcome of my baking later as i do it on too much pressure.

4. Your feelings & thoughts
I felt so doubt and insecure with myself when starting this project as i have not been in the kitchen for long times. However i believed practice and patience were the keys to pass through this obstacles. After watching and learning some recipes from this facebook page,i feel more confident to move on to the next step.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!
Patience is the thing i should practice now because impatience can only lead a mediocre and unpleasant outcome later.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? For week 1, I had learned about the introduction of sign language, alphabets and numbers and it was very interesting . Through these three topics, I had watched the videos provided , read the infographics , answered the quizzes to test my understanding and recorded my own videos spelling certain things using hand signs.

3)Points to remember from week 1 !

Starting learning sign language from day 1, the most important thing for me is repetition . This is because repetition can help me to be able to practise my own finger to use the sign much better and also help me to remember the signs easily.

4)Your feelings and thoughts.

I am so excited in learning this sign language because it is very interesting and I can understand the meaning of the signs used by the deaf.

5)One good thing from what you did is that you can practise now !

Even only in the first week , I felt very happy because I was able to spell my own name using sign language. Even though my hand sign was not so fast and smooth for now, but I think this is a great achievement for myself because I was able to do it in my first week of learning sign language. Other than that , I also can tell my age and also my birthday date using a sign !

6)Any difficulties/concerns ? How did you cope ?

I just had an internet problem accessing the course because the internet coverage is so poor especially at night so I had to find a suitable time to learn especially during the morning because the internet connection is much better during that time.

7)2 words to describe elective posting progress so far.

Slowly and exciting.

8)Your plan for next week.

To learn another 3 topics about greetings, colours and family.
