With this said, the design of the building must coincide with its purpose. For an object to be qualified as useful, it must be able to perform its supposed action.  It was Louis Sullivan who invented the principle “form follows function” and his mentee, Frank Lloyd Wright, who took the words of his mentor and made his own: “Form and function are one.” (Craven, 2019). Provided that a building not only serves its purpose as shelter and protection it may, however, vary depending on the architecture. Specific attributes such as walls, ceiling, doors, windows, and more would determine if a building would be considered functional. Despite having the steel come from Belgium, the church was completed in 1891 and was a few of the major structures that were not destroyed during World War II. The exact location where the San Sebastian church could be found is in Plaza del Carmen in the center of Quiapo, Manila. Although it still has not been confirmed, there is a rumor that the French engineer who was the mastermind of the Eiffel Tower, Gustave Eiffel, was behind the design and construction of San Sebastian.

The form of the church was influenced by its function because the people who built this wanted it to be long-lasting that is why they opted for a material that would not slowly break through the years. They have glass stained windows as for the source of light that has been painted on with the stories of the passion of Christ. There are chandeliers in the church as another source of light. Another noticeable function of the infrastructure would be its pointed arches when in reality, it helps with the overall weight of the church.
