Today I learned that history often sticks with you like a shadow. Cultures are formed, struck, shaped and influenced by their history. And some history is just too cruel to be true.
As the grandchild of a Jewish grandmother whose family suffered unspeakable things during the holocaust, I heard the stories and learned more about the past. And early on I started to wonder how much of this has to influence my family after 70 years.
My family chose not to be seen as the descendants of victims, but they had the luxury to hide in 'plain sight'. If your skin colour tells you apart it is much harder to simply choose, because it's the society who might see you as being 'them'.
For some cultures national history is something that sticks with every individual and the surrounding society can make it impossible to forget.
Today I learned a lot about the history of Guadeloupe and it was immensely interesting. It gives you a lot to think about but for me personally it also raises the question how deep you can dig into history without losing yourself/defining who you are by your actions and not by your ancestors.

Today I've seen and learnt again that people do sometimes cruel things to other people just for their own profit. And that repeats over time and history but under different circumstances. We, as global citizens, can help that some of those cruel things hopefully never repeat.

Today I learned a lot about Guadeloupe's history of slavery which was impressive (the way the museum presented it) and shocking at the same time. It was disturbing to see what atrocities people are capable of. I am really grateful to live in times where slavery is a thing of the past although the last room of the exhibition reminded us of issues like human trafficking, child labour etc. that still exist to this very day. Today's programme gave me quite a bit to digest, but it was very much appreciated. Thank you, Rita!

Jimo Hendrix quoted “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace“ He died September 1970.I am impressed, thinking about it.The exposition of the museum does not indicate how and what helps to change. But knowledge and education are a big pace forward. So the 85 million Euros are well spend.

I´m shocked, how self-loving staates were and are, to think they were better than other peoples. Mostly I´m angry about the church. What was and is with Jesus and the 10 commendments? But it is the unbelievable scandal, that in the year 2014 were 34 000 000 people a slave!! Why cannot stopp this the human rights commission. All time and all over the world every thing is only to make money irrelevant at whose expense. It seems, never learn a people from history.

Today I learned that slavery is not only an existing relict for the USA, especially racism. A documented slavery exists nearly since the Old Testament or still earlier.
There are nations that place themselves higher than others in military or religious terms. They subjugate the nations, in their view inferior peoples, and then enslave them. This problem is worldwide and, sadly, it is still continuing.

In this Museum I have learned in an impressive way that slavery has been a problem for centuries all over the world and is still in some regions. In particular, the life of slaves here in the region and their struggle for freedom was presented interactively. The museum visit has broadened my perspective on existing problems between cultures, especially between black and white.
