We are just in middle school.”.

Every day after school, Miles doesn’t have enough time to do the things he wants. But, he is not the only one who feels this way.

Every night she loses sleep worrying about her grades until it leads her mental health to worsen by the day. The stress of finishing all these projects and assignments deeply affects her. Brookside Middle School Student Nova Campbell has had enough of the biggest stress in her life, homework. She continually stayed up every night, getting less than 3 hours of sleep this week. The only thing she had to keep her awake was her coffee. Her coffee was supposed to keep her going throughout all these assignments until it got too much for her. She couldn’t deal with the stress anymore. With all these projects due so soon her grades started to drop. Even though she put in all this effort, it didn’t pay off. Although this story is somewhat untrue, we can all relate to it.

Many people all over the world are insecure due to their weight and it’s lowering their confidence. Even Zion Williamsom who was the number one draft pick in the NBA in 2019 gained a lot of weight since his arrival. He was 284 pounds pure muscle but due to COVID he gained 33 pounds for a total weight of 317 pounds. The heaviest in the NBA currently.

She tried getting the ball from them, but they did not let her do that. Morristown Middle School Student Tom Davis refused to pass the basketball to her, but everyone else on the basketball team, just because she was from a different country. Never again, she will join the team. This was one of the important moments in her life because she gave up her hobby of being on a basketball team. After all, she was just not treated well, and to be precise, she was not treated equally. Although this was not a major event in her life, it did impact her life to an extent. Her mother refused and told her to be “strong” and “brave'' and to not let the bullies get to her. But it continued, at school and online at home. Her teachers said to stop “tattling” She couldn't take it. What was she supposed to do? She was only a confused ten year old. Her sister found her hanging in her closet by a scarf. All these mean acts, all these harmless “jokes'' lead to a little girl taking her own life. More kids like ten year old Ashlynn Conner suffer from cyber bullying and bullying everyday. It's not unheard of, and it leads kids to do horrible things to themselves. Ashlynn, you're not alone in this fight.

A lone girl in a teal scoop-neckline shirt walks down a school hallway. Suddenly, a teacher steps out of a nearby classroom and strides toward her. The teacher tells the girl “Your dress is violating the dress code. It’s a distraction to males.”. The teacher then leads the girl to the office, and when the duo arrive at the office, the teacher rummages around in a bin. The teacher then pulls a poet shirt from the bin and states “You should wear this.”. The girl’s shoulders sag as she takes the shirt. As she heads out of the office, she holds back tears, trying not to sob. Though the story above is not necessarily true, it is based on the experiences of hundreds of students, mainly female, across the United States.

In a country where people from various different countries and cultures live, people have started accepting the fact that not everyone is the same as them. But still, some do not know enough about immigrants and are still against immigrants. They see them as “aliens” and also a potential threat to their society. Due to this, and several other factors, such as the weather and cultural differences, immigrants face a lot of difficulties as they arrive and start their lives in the new country. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said, “Migrants are often discriminated against in housing, education, health, work or social security.” (https://www.ohchr.org/en/issues/discrimination/pages/discrimination/migrants.aspx ). But, it seems like they do not know what consequences they can face if their act is reported. There are laws that prohibit the discrimination of immigrants, which include but not limited to: The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA for short), and the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. But, what are other people doing and what can one do to help improve the situation? Well, there are some organizations that are working extremely hard to decrease the discrimination of immigrants. One of them is the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) makes sure that all people of gender and race are equally treated. And, the ACLU is made up of hundreds of volunteers and attorneys who make sure to protect the civil liberties in the country. Some of the common issues that they address are Human rights, freedom of speech, and racial injustice. (https://www.verywellmind.com/10-organizations-that-support-racial-equality-5071298 ). Another organization that helps improve the lives of immigrants is Color of Change. It is an online racial justice organization that leads campaigns to address police brutalities against Black people, and also deters elected officials from protecting, supporting, and investing in an unaccountable police force. Other organizations include Live Free USA, Black Lives Matter, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). You can also start your own organization to improve the lives of many immigrants. Not everyone is very expressive. But, you can make a difference by taking steps to improve the lives of immigrants. Some steps that you can take to prevent immigrant discrimination, or improve the lives of many immigrants are by being an upstander, raising awareness of different cultures and people, and also educating immigrants on talking for themselves. To conclude, immigrants face a lot of difficulties when they move to your country, so why not make their life easier by helping them out, and not making their life harder by discriminating against them?

Dress codes are meant to create positive learning environments, but many of them have the opposite effect, violating student rights, shaming students, and targeting females. However, there are a multitude of ways that students and teachers alike can address and fix these issues. One way is to increase student involvement in the designing of dress code. If students have a say in what gets included in the dress code, a host of issues could be fixed easily. Another way is to ensure that students know what is expected of their clothing. Teachers, as well as administrators, can gather students and explain to them what the school dress code states. Additionally, teachers can, and should, avoid embarrassing students that violate dress codes by speaking to the offending student privately. They should also refrain from unfairly applying dress code violations. If a teacher teaching 8th period points out that a student is violating the dress code in a way that was not noticed for 7 periods, that student, and their peers, are sure to object. Above all, teachers should use good judgment, restraint, and respect, when dealing with dress codes. If one or more of these methods are used, issues caused by dress codes are guaranteed to be fixed.

Her body felt as if it could no longer keep up with her as she laid her head down on the table in defeat. Her head pulsated, her hand cramped, and her eyes drooped. Rather than give up, she continued to work on her homework because she did not want to disappoint her teachers or parents. For the day, she abandoned her friends and skipped dinner to focus on her work. By the time she finished her homework, it was already past her curfew and it was midnight. She wanted so badly to cry and rip up her homework. She wanted to tell her teachers that it was already too much to handle. She wanted to yell at someone to release her anger but she knew that if she did, it would be selfish and hurt the person receiving her scream. The next day, she was so tired and slept through one of her classes. After that, it was the same thing every day until the weekend.
