Presentation of Renzo

Renzo Tramaglino is the male protagonist of the Promessi Sposi by Alessandro Manzoni, he is a young man in his twenties. 
He is both a direct and indirect charcter depending on the situation. Initally he is naive, then because of many difficultis he changes. He is also gentile and honest, he loves deeply Lucia and he wants to marry her.

RENZO is a naive, a poor mountain man who knows little about the world and therefore easy to be caught, inebriated, diverted by events. Renzo and Don Abbondio

On the morning of the wedding, Renzo went to Canonica from Don Abbondio (the priest who was supposed to marry him and his wife (Lucia) but he did not want to marry them because the Bravi (bully boys) they threatened him .
But Renzo did not know and so he asked for explanations but the parrroco did not want to tell him why he was afraid of the leader of the Bravi (DON RODRIGO) and therefore renzo got furious but as he left the rectory he had explanations from the housekeeper of Don Abbondio.
As the truth came to know, he returned home and pressed with a dagger Don Abbondio, who, however frightened, denied him the truth.
Then he sent Bettina (a little girl who was a messenger between Renzo and Lucia) to tell the bride that the wedding could no longer be celebrated.
In this episode Renzo is at the center of the story and here he begins to let out his young impulsive character and somewhat inclined to anger, he senses that the curate is cheating him and then he cleverly leverages Perpetua's ingenuity to make her talk.

Renzo and lawyer Azzeccagarbugli

Renzo after discovering the truth goes to Agnese (mother of Lucia) and she advises him to go to Lecco by the lawyer Azzeccagarbugli to file a complaint against the bully of the country (Don Rodrigo) and in fact this does, he goes to Lecco by the lawyer Azzeccagarbugli (the most renowned lawyer of the province) bringing him gifts (four capons).
When the waitress welcomes him, he makes him sit in the room where Azzeccagarbugli is waiting for him.
The lawyer asks him what he wants from him and Renzo explains that a lordling has threatened the parish priest who was to marry him and his beloved.
The lawyer understands it and immediately begins to show other complaints similar to Renzo and then begins to write the complaint, but when he hears the name of the arrogant Don Rodrigo begins to get scared and chases away Renzo with his capons.
In this chapter we understand that Renzo plays a DIRECT role.

The lawyer is presented as a funny and graceless character, almost a comedy character (and in fact his interview with Renzo in chapter III is a sort of "comedy of misunderstandings")
