We think his meaning is that when doing the mathematics, we can choose a lot of methods to complete the exercises. In a normal situation, they can choose a random guy to rescue or something; however, they are in a big war, and they have to accomplish the mission, which is finding Ryan according to the superior. In addition, we totally agree with him because, in the war, we have to obey what the superior told us to minimize the quantity of deaths.
