1. The 1950s resettlement policy was unfair towards the Tamils. It was unfair because the Sinhalese peasants were transferred from the densly populated southestern and central areas to Tamil Areas. The government had implemented this policy to provide land for the landless Sinhalese peasants to live on and to cultivate padi.

2. Besides the Sinhalese peasants, Buddhist monks and the Sri Lankan Army which compromised mostly Sinhalese also came to occupy their lands.

1) The 1950s resettlement policy is unfair because the different races are not evenly distributed throughout the island. The Indian Tamils are heavily concentrated in the highland districts as the majority of them are tea plantation workers.
