As a future educator, I see myself as more than just a teacher—I am a mentor, a guide, and a source of inspiration for my students. I will dedicate myself to educating, supporting, and building their confidence. My goal is to cultivate a love for learning, promote critical thinking, and nurture their personal growth.

To my future students, I will be more than just an instructor. I will be your guiding light in difficult times, your steady support in learning, a source of comfort, and a shield when things gets rough.

Together, we will create a classroom where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard. I want my students to know they are cared for and supported no matter what. We will create a classroom filled with positivity, acceptance, and fairness.

Most importantly, I will believe in them—even when they doubt themselves. My role extends beyond academics; I will help shape them into innovative, confident, humble, and intelligent individuals.

Xunzi (荀子) once said,

“Jade is not polished without grinding, nor is a person perfected without learning.”

MY WORD ART FOR INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

This artwork represents the power and spirit of inclusive education, symbolized through the form of a dragon—a creature often associated with strength, wisdom, and transformation. In ancient China, the dragon symbolizes power, wisdom, and good fortune. They are also symbols of transformation and growth due to their ability to move freely between the heavens and the seas. The words forming the dragon’s shape are core values and outcomes of inclusive education which I believe to be significant pillars: Enhanced Education, Critical Thinking, Confidence with Brains, Unique Talents, and Artistic Capabilities—to name a few.

Each term reflects the holistic development that inclusive education fosters, not just academically but also socially, emotionally, and creatively. The dragon's form shows how these elements unite to create a dynamic, empowered learner who can thrive in any environment.

By using a dragon, I aim to show that inclusive education isn’t just about access; it’s about unleashing potential—turning students into empowered individuals who can soar high, no matter their background, ability, or identity.

Maria Gilda Quintua-Nakahara

To run her business and talk to people, Gilda uses her hands — either through pen and paper or Filipino Sign Language. The definition of a successful Deaf Entrepreneur, she runs a travel and tour business called Nakahara Lodging and Travel Agency. Catering to those like her, it’s primarily a travel service for deaf people around the world, though they also provide services for hearing people. Drawing inspiration from foreign deaf friends, she and her fellow deaf Pinoys met in tourist spots, and she decided to set up her own business starting in 2004. A travel agency like any other, she’s known for her reliable arrangements and service which she describes has “age-old” Filipino hospitality. Pushing through discrimination and barriers, she managed to learn the ins and outs of booking flights, accommodations, and tour management.

In 2007, she was recognized at the Go Negosyo Caravan for People with Disabilities in De Salle –College of St. Benilde. But, as she said in her interview with Manila Bulletin, representing the fellow deaf is its own reward.

“As a deaf person in this kind of business, I am proud to say that I have crossed the border of so-called limited access. I honestly worked hard to achieve my goals. I wanted to show the world that we are not cut off from mainstream society and we are capable of regularly doing and keeping our jobs like the rest of hearing and speaking people.”

Aside from all of this, Gilda has helped establish a deaf organization in her province of Eastern Samar.

It’s not huge acts that make someone inspirational. It’s the daily effort to better yourself in whatever situation you find yourself in. These three Filipinos are an inspiration not just to PWDs, but to the rest of us as well.

Despite being born deaf, Gilda has achieved remarkable success as an entrepreneur, founding the M.G.L.Q. Deaf Tour Assistance in 2004, a travel agency catering to both deaf and hearing clients. Her dedication and resilience have made her a prominent figure in advocating for inclusivity and empowerment within the Deaf community.

While reading "Folden the Voice of Courage," I felt a mix of emotions—sadness for how he was treated, but also admiration for how he never gave up. It made me realize that people might judge us for how we look, but what truly matters is the heart and effort we put into our dreams. I learned that pushing forward, even when it’s hard and no one believes in you, can lead to something beautiful. What surprised me most was how just one person believing in Folden made such a big difference—it reminded me how powerful support and kindness really are.

Group members/ Folden's writers:

Jaica Mandalunes

Charene Sandoval

Pretze Mhe Fernandez

Clidhane Bacaron

Lovely Kate Garciano

Jessa Mae Bustria

Maryjoy Abellana

Marinel Mahilom

Cheryl Mahilom

Jireh Grace Ale

Mary Anne Flores

Khent Lape

Micah Olasiman
