Margaret Sanger is from Corning, New York and she is born Sep 14, 1879, and died September 6, 1966, in Tucson, Arizona and she is the founder of the birth control movement in the United States and an international leader in the field.On 16 October 1916, Margaret Sanger opened one of the first birth control clinics in the United States in Brooklyn, New York, which some have called the Brownsville Clinic. In 1921 Sanger founded the American Birth Control League, and she served as its president until 1928.

First woman elected to US House 1960

The first woman that was elected to congress was Montana Jeannette Rankin in 1916. This occurred before the ratification of the 19th Amendment which prohibited the federal government from denying citizens on the right to vote based on sex. This is what made this event so significant. She did notable things like voting against the us entry in WW1. She was a heavy advocate for world peace. She was also the only member of congress to vote against declaring war against Japan after Pearl Harbor.

The 19th Amendment was created to allow woman to vote; it was passed by Congress on June 4, 1919 and accepted on August 18, 1920. The women who were main leaders in this movement were Alice Paul and Ida B.Wells. This movement started in 1912 creating the Congressional Committee of the National American Woman Suffrage Association… leading to 1913 forming the National Woman’s Party, Burns and Paul. Alice Paul and Ida B Wells were both main leaders in the women’s suffrage movement in 1913.
