They were layers, lawmen*, gardeners and many other places. It might've been one of the biggest cults in history, with the sole purpose of proving to black people, that they shouldn't have the same rights as whites, or to stop the black people to take over America.

Examples of these laws are, black people must give up their seat to white people. This could also be seperate toilets or no blacks allowed in this bar. The laws even took away voting rights at one time. Many confederates* were afterwards judges and policemen, therefore the laws just got worse.
