In the award winning memoire "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom, he writes about the life and teachings from his former college professor Morrie Schwartz who is dying from ALS. Morrie uses his worsening health to teach others about what it's like to die and how to live your life to the fullest to die peacefully. Before he was diagnosed with this terminal illness he was a well respected and loved professor at Brandeis University. Even when he stopped being an official teacher and went into retirement he still became a teacher to Mitch, when they would meet every Tuesday to have lessons and discussions about topics in life. Learning from one another and teaching one another.

A tension of opposites, like a pull on a rubber band. And most of us live somewhere in the middle."
- Morrie Schwartz

Morrie uses his worsening health to teach others about what its like to die and how to live your life to the fullest to die peacefully. Morrie was diagnosed with the illness when he was 78 years old, far along into his life already. The illness flipped his life upside down and changed his whole perspective on others. Morrie wanted to spread his teachings around the world and always strived to show everyone as much affection as he could, by becoming friends with everybody and always asking others to speak to him about their lives.

Morrie uses his worsening health to teach and help other understand the importance of love, family, and community. In the book Morrie is extremely affectionate, to the point where it rubs off on other people causing them to become more open to love and affection too. An example of this is when Mitch begins kissing a Morrie on the cheek and a greeting and a Farwell because of how important physical touch is to his ex-professor. Morrie shows others his surrounding yourself with those you love will only positively affect your life and will also impact them.

He speaks about how most people don't live their lives how they wish to because they don't believe that they will die. Morrie wants to spread the message to the world to not fear death but "embrace it".

When we get to the near moment of death we consider it as something distressing, but it should be a moment that we embrace. Morrie says it himself that when we start to die, we realize how to live. When Morrie was diagnosed with his disease and realized that he didn't have much time left, he became more considerate of what his last few moments would be like. At first he was dreadful about the thought of death, but then soon realized that this was an opportunity to live his life out to the fullest before it was too late.

In the book Morrie knows how hard it would be to go through his illness without love and even though the feeling itself isn't enough to cure him it made it easier for him to be comfortable in his death and make those around him at peace with their loss.

In the award-winning book "Tuesdays with Morrie", Morrie said, "We must be able to forgive ourselves before we can forgive others." Similar to forgiveness, morrie would agree that you need to love yourself before you love others. However, Mandela says we are children of God and Morrie would disagree with this statement because when he was younger, he moved away from religion due to the death of his mother but found comfort in Judaism instead of Christianity.
