Week 1 : Adab in Seeking Knowledge and Al-Quran as the Book of Guidance

In this first week of our usrah meeting, we have go through and discuss about Adab and Al-Quran ! It sounds interesting right ? We as a Muslim, need to take a big responsibility of these two elements in our life. I would like to share what I have gain from our usrah session ;

Adab in Seeking Knowledge

“ For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them even ‘ugh’ nor yell at them. Rather, address them respectfully. ”

(Al-Quran , 17:23)

Personally, I think adab is the key for us to success in our life. How can we open the door without the key right ? It same goes to how can we success in our life without adab ? We also need to bring the key with us everywhere we go so that we do not lost it, it means we need to keep the good manners in ourselves at everywhere and with anyone we are. Sr Kauthar has shares three adab that we need to practice in the way for seeking knowledge.

Intention for Allah

Anything that we want to do we need to make sure that its all because of Allah

We seek for knowledge because of Allah. If we do it just want a good result and show it to others, it is wrong.

We need to set our heart and mind that we are learning for Allah’s pleasure

Al-Jihad fi Sabilillah which means striving and fighting in the path of Allah

Surah Al-Bayyinah, verse 5 , Allah said the righteous person is person who does something sincerely for the sake of Allah.

Pray and Du’a

Study prayer ;

“Oh Allah, open your wisdom to us and spread to us from the treasures of your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, spread my chest (my soul) and ease my affairs.”

This du’a is such a miracle if we practice it in our daily life. We ask for Allah’s help at the time we feel burdened by the test.

Hardworking

We need to do something with hardworking because hardworking is a one of the ikhtiar from us to success

We need to show our efforts in seeking knowledge so maybe Allah will reward our efforts with great sustenance

There is no benefit if we are just tawakkal and hoping for Allah’s help but we do not show our efforts.

Seeking knowledge is very important. It is because we need to use the knowledge to face our daily life test and make wise decisions.

Al-Quran as the Book of Guidance

Al-Quran is literally Muslim’s life guide. Allah had already told us about what we need to do in life and what halal and haram for us in Al-Quran. In surah Al-Isra’, verse 9-21, Allah already told us that there will be a severe punishment if we do evil in life. Its depends on us to take it serious and aware of it or not. Thats why we need Al-Quran in our life and understand Allah’s guidance and apply it in our daily life. The guidance already in front of us, it just we pretend to not look and take it.

Actually, there are a lot of ways to interact with Al-Quran, some of them are :

Read and understand each content of Al-Quran. Understand what did Allah want to say.

Memorise the verse and apply it in our daily life such as in solat. Remember, once we memorise it and become a hafiz/hafizah, it’s a big sin if we lost it. At least, show the efforts we want to murajaah

Read with the correct tajwid because the way we read shows the way we care the good manner with Al-Quran and Allah.

From my own perspective, usrah is like a family. We share a mutual understanding and open our own thoughts. Usrah also a space for us to take advantage of by learning new things and improve ourselves to be better.

That’s all thank you !

Week 2 : Hadith Jibril

This is the second week of our usrah meeting. This week, Sr Kauthar had shared one hadith with us which is Hadith Jibril. Well, I never knew about this hadith before, thanks to Sr Kauthar for sharing such a wonderful hadith with us. Let me tell what I have understand from this hadith ;

There is 4 elements the Angel Jibreel (Malaikat Jibril) had asked Prophet Muhammad SAW, which is :

Islam

Faith ( Iman )

Excellence ( Ihsan )

Hour ( Day of Judgement )

For the first three questions, Prophet Muhammad SAW had answered it truly but for the last questions, the Angel Jibreel (Malaikat Jibril) had asked it for three times and then Prophet Muhammad SAW answered “ The one who is being asked does not know any more than the one who is asking ”. This means, no one on this earth knows when or how the Day of Judgement is, It’s only Allah SWT knows about it and we have to believe in his plans.

In Al-Quran also has some verses that told us about Islam, Iman and Ihsan ; Surah Al-Baqarah [verse 284-286 ]

1 ) Faith ( Iman )

6 Pillars of Faith

Belief in Allah - Believe that Allah does exist and He is the only Creator, Sustainer, King and Planner of everything in existence

Belief in Angels ( Malaikat ) - Believe that Angels do exist and were created the commands of Allah and never transgress His laws or commands.

Belief in Messengers - Believe that those Prophets do exist as messenger from Allah to give us lessons that we need to understand and practice.

Belief in Kitab ( Al-Quran ) - Believe that the Al-Quran was revealed from Allah as a guide to life for us.

Belief in the Last Day ( Day of Judgement ) - Believe that the judgement after life does exist as the day that Allah judges mankind for their deeds.

Belief in Divine Decree ( Qada’ & Qadar ) - All the things that happened there must be wisdom.

2 ) Excellence ( Ihsan )

Muslim’s responsibility to obtain perfection or excellence in worship

Such that Muslims try to worship Allah as if they see Him, and although they cannot see Him.

They undoubtedly believe that Allah is constantly watching over them

3 ) Islam

5 Pillars of Islam

Profession of Faith ( shahada ) - As the first rules to be a Muslim and to differentiate between Muslims and non-Muslims.

5 Times Prayer - Pray is the first priority in Islam. Prayer that guides us to the right path. We can also ourselves closer to Allah through prayer.

Fasting - Fasting teaches us to resist lust and be grateful.

Alms ( zakat ) - By alms, we can help others that need our hands like orphans and poor people. Alms also can cleanse our soul because it teaches us shares things and not stingy

Hajj ( Haji ) - From Hajj, we could cleanse ourselves from sins and get closer to Allah. Hajj also teaches us about Islamic history.

Why do these 5 pillars of Islam are important ?

1 - To strengthen our bond with Allah ; believe that Allah is always by our side

2 - Strengthen bonds between us and others

3 - To refunding our souls

4 - To be the real servants of Allah

That’s all thank you !

These are some informations that I got from this discussion ;

1) Belief in Allah

This pillar is like the key to be a Muslim and get into Islam

It also related to 3 tauhid in surah Maryam verse 65 :

1- Rububiyyah : believe that Allah is the creator of everything and He is the one that determine the sustenance and life journey of everything and everyone

2- Uluhiyyah : believe that Allah is the one that deserves to be worshipped and obeyed.

3- Asma’ wa Sifat : believe that Allah is the only god that has perfect name and nature.

Some of the 20 nature of Allah :

1. Wujud- Allah exist before anything ever exist

2. Qidam- Allah is the first without any preceeding previous

3. Baqa’- Allah is “Eternal” which will not be damage forever.

4. Mukhalafatu Lil Hawadith- Allah is impossible to be equals with His creations [ makhluk ].

2) Belief in His Angels

Believe in the existence of Angels as the creatures of Allah

Believe that Angels do monitor the good and bad deeds of people

Angels is one of the creatures that made from the Light.

Angels are responsible for taking care and protect humans anywhere and anytime.

3) Belief in the Sent Book [ Al-Quran ]

Believe that all Books was revealed by Allah but Allah does not guarantee that the other Books will preserved except Al-Quran.

Al-Quran is the only Book that preserved as it has been guaranteed and the easiest Book to memorised.

Arabic has been used in Al-Quran as Arabic is the most noble language in the sight of Allah and Arabic is the language of Heaven

Al-Quran also acts as a guide to all mankind

That’s all thank you !
