--Bryce Hammond, Arjun Reddy, Ebrima Jarjue, Aishwarya Pradeep, Harmit Sampat, Ekta, Xueying
--We were assigned to observe the coffee shop in Stamp.
--Below is a picture of the coffee shop as it was closing
--One informative observation: The patrons were all working individually at their own tables. The lighting was low and so was the music; one can infer that this is a quiet place people come to when they need to work independently in a quiet environment.
--Something we learned:
----towards the shop's closing time, the staff isn't that friendly :(
----the manager for the coffee shop and ice cream shop are the same
---the stuff at the ice cream shop was equally unfriendly
---Arjun overheard one of the employees noting that they didn't want to be interviewed because they didn't want to say something stupid
--what went well: the staff at the ice cream shop tried to contact someone we could interview
--what surprised us: how unwilling the staff members were to talk with us; how aggressive they were around closing time; Google had the closing time incorrectly
--what might you do differently: get to the shop earlier during peak time; we came up with potential problem areas we wanted to ask about including: common coffee flavors, how the staff deal with many patrons, portion sizes, preferred payment methods, why that specific shop, frequency of drinking coffee, the purpose of drinking coffee, systems for logging sales

1. Shaan, Tripti, Tanya, Matthew, Salma, Eli
2. Assignment: Sustainability behaviors/Food waste
3. A picture of an artifact or the work context
4. One informative quote or observation:
"It's a waste of money" --- said by the one of the janitors in reference to how food gets wasted by the franchises opened in Stamp
"Maybe they burn it?" --- said by a student in relation to what happens to the stuff in the recycling bin. (This shows how unaware people are about what happens to the different kinds of trash)
5. We observed how most people just used their paper bag as a container and threw it all into trash. Very few people took the pain to sort out their trash. We also learned that the Chick-fil-A paper bags have a foil lining making it non-recyclable. But people did not know that and threw it in the Recycle bin. Similarly, the plastic bags of Moby Dick were non-recyclable but people were unaware of that.
6.

She can cook herself, but prefers to use time to study. Has tried a lot of the restaurants' menu items. She was very detailed about her preference for each restaurants. Takes 30 minutes to eat each meal and prefers quiet and alone time during eating. Having more information about menu items would be helpful (especially for international students).
- Line congestion and traffic (especially during lunch time) was a major issue. Lack of healthy food options as well.
- What went well; People who were willing to be interviewed were easy going.
What surprised us; Trying to get people to answer or elaborate when they gave short answers. Having a friendly approach helps, which is what we learned in the process.
What we would do differently in the future; Interviewing at different times of the day on different days of the week.

Very difficult to verbalize directions FROM Stamp TO wherever their "customer" was trying to go.
----------------------------Something we learned:
How inefficient disconnected all the campus information systems/technologies for general information and wayfinding are. Student Hangout Space: You are creating new technologies to support student collaboration (academically) and social experiences. Conduct observations to find out about current collaboration and social experiences in the open areas throughout Hornbake and/or ESJ (and/or this building).

c. A picture of an artifact or the work context (don’t take pictures of your interviewees unless they give you permission to do so)

d. One informative quote or observation: ESJ (the circle tables were so small for group work). HBK (people are working in groups but still looking at their own screens and talked verbally while still looking at their screens)

e. Something you learned from your interviews and observations that was new to you. ESJ: you can use the screen tablet to reserve a work room (although we found its annoying to use said screen). HBK (space was very functional) Stamp: Old man sitting on the sofa for the television and the environment that has lots of people walking around.(he is here from monday to friday everyweek. There was only 4 total females in the entire student union area. And, only one stayed to hang out, the other three got food and left. Everything in the environment is sports focused.

f. Your reflections on the interview process – what went well; what do you still have questions about…? ESJ: clear questions and showed visuals to help explain.
