Gardens to me hold metaphors of grounding, healing, and transformation. For children, they are spaces of agency and autonomy - just as Mei in My Neighbor Totoro planting seeds and checking them daily, believing they will grow. Totoro’s planting ritual mirrors traditional agricultural blessings, evoking a cyclical, sacred relationship with the land - reminding us that care, belief, and presence can bring things to life.

I would like Chiswick Gardens to hold an open brief or open inspiration day for artists, perfomers and creatives to explore and draw inspiration from the gardens but also other activities going on from visitors in the house to people enjoying the cafe and the volunteer gardeners and school visits also taking place. Something that is not prescribed in advance but shared with everyone in the end. Poetry dance music all arts.
