As a Sri Lankan, I am incredibly proud of our country's rich and diverse culture. Often referred to as the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean", Sri Lanka is a blend of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity, creating a unique tapestry of beliefs and traditions. Celebrations like Vesak, which honors the Buddha's life with vibrant lights and processions, and Sinhala and Tamil New Years, marked by traditional games and rituals, are special times of the year that bring people together.

Sri Lankan culture also shines through in its music, dance and art. One of the most awe-inspiring events in Kandy is the grand Esala Perahera, with its drummers, dancers and beautifully decorated elephants. Our food reflects our love for bold flavors, with dishes like rice and curries, hoppers and spicy sambols. But beyond these traditions, what truly defines Sri Lanka is our warmth and hospitality—welcoming everyone with open arms and genuine smiles.
