Exploring the influence of alcohol on people’s experiences of accessing and receiving support for bipolar disorder - Lancaster University

Researchers at Lancaster University are conducting interviews to explore how alcohol use may influence people’s experiences of accessing and receiving support for bipolar disorder. They hope to use this information to make recommendations to improve mental health support for bipolar, for people who also experience alcohol problems.

Adults diagnosed with bipolar disorder who report current or previous co-occurring alcohol problems, who have sought or accessed mental health services for bipolar disorder, are eligible for involvement. No formal alcohol-related diagnosis is required, and you also do not need to have received treatment for bipolar disorder from mental health services, as exploring alcohol use as a barrier to treatment access (including instances where people are unable to access treatment) is an important focus of the study.

Interviews will take up to an hour, and no further commitment is required. The study is part of a PhD project investigating co-occurring bipolar and alcohol use, which is not survivor-led but involves significant input from a paid lived experience advisory panel. As compensation for your time, you will receive £25.

If you are interested in being involved, please contact Lauren Halsall: l.halsall@lancaster.ac.uk.
