We recommend that individuals who want to enter the Rail Industry undertake the Track Induction Course. This course is designed to train new workers who will be responsible for maintaining, inspecting, or renewing the railway track or performing other duties that may impact the stability, position, or integrity of the track infrastructure.

There are recommended stages for any new workers to achieve the desired outcome of obtaining their PTS license.

Stage 1: At the beginning of a candidate's journey, we offer a pre-course drug and alcohol screening to determine their eligibility for further progress. Those who pass this screening can move forward, while those who don't pass will receive feedback and guidance on improving. If this screening is not completed, and the individual fails the formal Rail D&A, they will receive a five-year ban from any employment on or near the Rail infrastructure.

Stage 2: New entrants to the Rail industry will have to undergo the following training:

• Mandatory Medical & Drug/Alcohol Testing

• PTS AC/DCCR - Track Induction course (10-days)

• First Aid at Work

• Manual Handling

• Small Tools (maintenance) - tools chosen by the future employer

This package has been designed to meet the needs of prospective learners, enhancing their training ahead of a standard new starter. It also meets the requirements of any employing authority who seeks a sustainable workforce.

During this course you will work through 4 units which will allow you to become a fully licensed door supervisor and security officer.

The four units covered are:

• Unit 1 Principles of working in the security industry

• Unit 2 Principles of working as a Door supervisor in the security industry

• Unit 3 Conflict management 

• Unit 4 Physical intervention

A pre-requisite of attending the course is the completion of the Anti Counter Terrorism online learning. www.protectuk.police.uk/user/login 

On completion and passing of the course, you will receive support to set up your SIA account and link into the training providers business account.

The Security Industry Training: Door Supervisor course is run across seven days where attendance is mandatory to all sessions.

A Forward Tipping Dumper is a small machine used in construction to move and dump materials like soil or gravel. It has a front skip that tips forward for easy unloading. Built to handle rough ground, it works well in tight spaces.

Our Forward Tipping Dumper course is a 2-day course, usually 8am-3:30pm.

A Road Roller is a compactor-type engineering vehicle use to compact soil, gravel, concrete or asphalt in the construction of roads and foundations.

Our Road Roller course is a 2-day course, usually 8am-3:30pm.

An Articulated Dump Truck is a heavy duty vehicle designed for off-road hauling and construction applications. It consists of two main units: a front tractor unit and a rear trailer unit, connected by an articulated coupling that allows for pivoting movement. This design enables the truck to navigate rough terrain effectively, making it ideal for transporting large loads in challenging environments.

Our Articulated Dumper training is a 4-day course, usually 8am-3:30pm.

The Counterbalance Forklift is forward facing and usually referred to as a 'standard forklift'. The load is counterbalanced by a heavy weight on the back of the machine and is practical where height is not required.

The Counterbalance Forklift is much more popular for it's simplistic driving style. Left is left and right is right in regards to direction.

Reach Forklift Training

The Reach Forklift has the forks to the side of the operator and is designed for flat surface, smaller aisles and high lifts.

The Reach Forklift is less popular due to the nature of the opposite steering that is used to operate the machine.

Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment

This qualification provides knowledge relating to Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. It is ideal for those individuals requiring a recognised qualification prior to completing the Health and Safety test for their CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.

This qualification will prepare learners for entry to employment in the construction industry.

This Level 2 qualification has been designed for individuals who require the basic knowledge of health and safety that is essential within the workplace. It is also suited for individuals about to pursue a role for the very first time within a new workplace.

The qualification covers:

• Duties and responsibilities of employers and employees

• Benefits of good health and safety in the workplace

• Process of a risk assessment

• Hazards and controls in the workplace

• Responding to accidents, near misses and ill-health in the workplace

• Emergency procedures

• Importance of reporting accidents

The course is usually run over one full day.

This non-accredited course is a fun and interacting way to learn a new skill allowing you to communicate with the deaf community.

Topics covered during this course:

• Greeting and Introductions

• How to sign your name and where you live

• Numbers and Weather

The course is 10 weeks long and can be accessed at the Compass Community Hub or via Microsoft Teams.

This Level 3 qualification is suitable for individuals who need to become an emergency first-aider within the workplace as a part of their role. This qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The course covers:

• The roles and responsibilities of a first-aider

• Assessing an emergency situation safely

• CPR and AED

• Administrating first aid to a choking casualty

• Dealing with shock, burns, scalds, bleeds and minor injuries

This course is a one-day course and is valid for 3 years.

This Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Course is suitable for anybody with the responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This course meets the Health & Safety Requirements & Regulations.

This course is a two day course and is valid for 3 years.

This Level 2 Counselling Skills course introduces the theory, skills and ethical standards of counsellors. It will also help improve your communication skills, which can improve relationships both personal and professional.

This course will run over 9 weeks, covering 2 hours per week.

This Higher Education Level 3 module will introduce you to the role of a Teaching Assistant within an early years/primary school setting. You will:

• Explore the role of a Teaching Assistant in the support of young learners within a maintained and non-maintained early years/primary school setting.

• Understand more about the basic principles of child development and how children learn

• Understand the interrelationship and importance of learning through play

• Learn about the role government policy, learning environment, class teacher and wider family play in supporting the development process of a child

The Training to be a Teaching Assistant course runs across 9 weeks with one 3 hour session per week.

This Level 3 Agored Cymru accredited course will show you different principles which can be used to improve your artwork. You will produce artwork that uses light and shade to show space, scale and perspective. It will also help you produce artwork that uses design principles to show mood and emotion, as well as produce visual records that use the design principles. This will allow you to develop a portfolio of work.

The course runs across 9 weeks, with one 3 hour session per week.

This course covers:

• Good customer service

• Bad customer service

• Understanding the importance of first impression

• Dealing with customer problems and complaints

The usual structure of this Customer Service course is three 3 hour sessions.

The Retail in the Workplace course is usually run across four 2 hour sessions.

Various ICDL sessions are run throughout the week. Sessions are usually 2 hours long and will cover your learning independently.

Digital Skills for Business drop in sessions are varied days throughout the week with each session being 2 hours long. All learning is done on an independent level and is individually learner paced.

This creative workshop is for the family to come together and explore air dry clay crafts. Doing crafts together with your child allows for quality time and important memories to be created, that will last a lifetime.

Usually the Stitch & Sew workshops are run over four weeks for 2 hours per session.

There is specialist machinery, like the Band Saw where individuals are taught how to design a project before moving across to the band saw to cut the design. Finally then constructing the section together and securing with glue. Our favourite project with the band saw is the decorative tree trunk jewellery box.

There is also the opportunity to turn your hand to Woodturning where a variety of different items can be made, all dependent on a person's ability. Some of our favourite woodturning items are a bowl or a candlestick.

The workshop is also open to your own creative craftsmanship with 'open carpentry', where you can design and create what you would like. We have had bird boxes, wine racks and planters created previously with every design as unique as possible.

All Carpentry workshops are limited due to health & safety in the workshop but there ae various sessions running per week. Most sessions run over 3 hours.

This taster workshop is the perfect opportunity to try your hand at bricklaying before making a carer commitment. During this workshop you will learn the basics of bricklaying, covering:

• How to mix mortar

• How to use the correct tools & equipment

• Different pointing methods and techniques

• How to set our and plan to build a wall

• How to lay bricks using different techniques

• Different styles of walls

Each Bricklaying for Beginners session is two hours long and delivered on a weekly basis.

The DIY Wall Tiling & Repairs workshop runs once a week with 2 hour sessions.

Our Plumbing for Beginners workshops allow you to use tools, equipment and materials typically used in plumbing. The workshops provide a taster into the trade before making the commitment, especially if you're unsure what trade you would like to specialise in.

Along the way on our plumbing workshops you will learn how to fit a bathroom suite as every four weeks will result with a change of component. The four components of a bathroom suite you will learn to install are a toilet, a bath, a sink and a radiator.

Our Plumbing for Beginners sessions run across four weeks with every session being 2 hours.

Emergency DIY for Plumbing

In our Emergency DIY for Plumbing you will cover the basics of the plumbing world which should make you confident to cut out the tradesman and keep costs down for the odd job.

The 'odd jobs' covered are:

• Preparing in readiness for the winter

• Leaking taps

• Bleed radiators & balance heat issues

• Unblock sinks, change & clean pipework and sink traps

• Fit an outside tap

• Solder a joint

• Learn how to use push fittings and compression joints

Each Emergency DIY sessions runs for two hours.

We offer a CSCS induction, use of the electronic CITB test and Health & Safety in a Construction Environment based questions with answers.

We also offer 1:1 sessions for participants that may need the extra support before accessing the course.

There are various time slots throughout the week where this support can be accessed.

During these drop in sessions, the computing world is yours for the taking. Learn the most basic of skills from using a mouse or keyboard, to booking appointments, & placing a food shop delivery. Nothing is too simple or difficult, it is totally independent learning.

The Basic ICT drop in sessions usually run for 2 hours a few times a week.

​Fire marshals (sometimes known as fire wardens) are civilians trained to assist in emergency fire evacuation procedures at businesses and other organizations. It is a legal obligation that workplaces must have a sufficient number of fire marshals to deal with fire emergencies.

​This course provides extensive knowledge of fire prevention, evacuation protocol and using fire extinguishers.

This online course is approved by CPD, Gatehouse Awards, IIRSM and Institute of Hospitality. The duration of this course is 220 minutes.

The Regulations lay out duties for both employees and employers. They give a general requirement that employees must be trained to manually handle correctly including the use of any equipment their employer provides to handle loads safely.

This course outlines exactly what constitutes manual handling and covers the regulations and legislation that apply to manual handling tasks. It then goes on to cover safe handling techniques and how to develop good habits in relation to manual handling. It finishes off by introducing some practical solutions and the use of mechanical aids.

This course is approved by IIRSM, CPD and IOSH and has the duration of 75 minutes.

All working at height situations are covered by health and safety legislation. Chief among these is the Work at Height Regulations 2005. These regulations confer legal duties on employers and employees to assess, control and minimise risks and hazards from work at height.
