This was taken by Dorothea Lange during the Great Depression, where she is clearly struggling to take care of her two children. They were at a camp full of unemployed workers at the time. The Great Depression took away many people's livelihoods. It took people homes, money, but most important, their spirit. People lost hope during that time as they lose their jobs and they had to find ways to survive. Lange showed in this photograph the despair and the sense of hopelessness and it is really easy to see but most importantly feel it.

She was notable photographer who would do much of her work to promote awareness for certain issues around the world just like she for the "Migrant Mother". She would work on many different project throughout her life that would serve to be provide eyes to global situations around the world, not just the Great Depression. It was just the nature of her photography, she wanted people to feel whatever is going on during the time through her work. She wanted people to connect with the photograph and for it to start a discussion about an abundance of social issues.

Lange wanted the photograph to support the programs that created by President Roosevelt to help with the end of the Great Depression. It was programs that were meant to provide possible resources to people in need. This photograph would absolutely be a catalyst for possible change, just like Lange attended it to be.

The photograph provides various of meanings and definitions, however it was inspired by many arts, no art more however than the Madonna and Child. This art represented warmth, showed vulnerability, and display the love for the child and the pain you would go through for them. As you can see in the picture, a mother is holding his child with a look of concern and heartbreak, similar to Lange photograph.

What I was trying to display what that Lange photograph showed struggle, hopelessness, and the obvious need for help. It showed a mother not knowing what she could do to provide for her family. I just wanted to provide context into the photograph and show how it represented a dark time in the world. How families try to pick up the pieces of their spirit and heart that was stripped away from them due to the Great Depression. It was to explain how one photograph can tell someones story and many others story. It allows you to connect in a personal level like no other.
