         <description><![CDATA[<div>Definition/Explanation:<br>The Monroe Doctrine was a policy set in place by President Monroe which prevented European countries from colonizing the Western Hemisphere. In exchange, the United states would not be involved with European political affairs.&nbsp;<br><br>Significance- Why is this important?<br>This policy is important because it kept Europe and America from colliding with each other over land and other affairs. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Definition/Explanation:<br><br>The, "Speak softly and carry a big stick," motto means to negotiate peacefully but to have a backup plan in case things go wrong. Roosevelt doesn't use the backup plan, almost like a bluff he intimidated them with it.<br><br><br>Significance- Why is this important?<br><br>This method helped a lot when trying to build the Panama Canal across Central America.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Definition/Explanation: An addition to the Monroe Doctrine that said that the US will intervene if a country acts disorderly and has an impotence which results in a general loosening in the ties of civilized society.<br><br><br><br>Significance- Why is this important?&nbsp;<br>The Monroe Doctrine said that no matter what, the US will not interfere in European affairs and European nations will not interfere in US affairs. However, the Roosevelt Corollary gives the US a reason to interfere in European affairs if they feel the need to.</div>]]></description>

What piqued their interest?<br>The land was important because they can build a canal and make travel easier for them instead having to go around all of South America.&nbsp;<br><br><br>What Is the outcome of the land today?<br>The Panama Canal is now owned by the Panamanian government they got it in 1999.</div>]]></description>
