I believe Elton Jon’s Christmas commercial has a strong storytelling effect because of the following things: The nostalgia effect, the backstory, the singing and calm voice. Although the other Christmas commercial are from the same company, the reason why it didn’t take much attention and effect is mostly because of the changing viewpoint of the character and non-relatable feeling towards the characters. Elton Jon’s story felt much more real that goes into our mind.

That Elton John Christmas ad is my favorite. It masterfully uses the holiday season not just for a sale but to tell a powerful, emotional story. It's a journey back to the very moment his dream began—a young boy receiving a piano as a gift. It shows how one simple act of gifting can create a spark that grows into a passion, taking him from a local living room to the global stage. It’s a beautiful reminder that the most meaningful gifts aren't just objects, but the dreams they can inspire.

The story builds from a child’s excitement for the gift, to the playful twist of the dog being the one who enjoys it most. The characterization of the dog showing its longing, joy, and personality creates humor and empathy, making the ad memorable and touching. It works because it combines surprise, warmth, and relatability in a way viewers won’t forget.

I personally find this advertisement interesting because it doesn’t immediately focus on the brand. Instead, it draws viewers in with a heartwarming story, charming animation, and delightful characters. The story of Bridget, the trampoline, and Buster the dog unfolds in a way that evokes joy and nostalgia, which makes the audience emotionally connect with the advert.

As the story progresses, the ad subtly builds brand awareness without feeling like a direct sales pitch. The combination of storytelling, music, and animation makes it memorable and engaging, which in turn strengthens the audience’s association with the John Lewis brand. For me, this approach demonstrates how effective narrative-driven advertising can be in leaving a lasting impression while also promoting a brand.
