For Instructional Design, I chose this artifact because it includes my understanding of two instructional models and how they both pertain to what is used to create instruction and the purpose for each step. I was able to research both models and gain a deeper understanding of the methodology of each model which led to an interesting conversation with my curriculum manager over other researched based instructional models that were used in my school district.
By being exposed to these and other models in the Instructional Design class, I am able to bring in elements from different models or use any of the models I learned about to design curriculum for my school and district. This will be used throughout my career.

The most important part of creating curriculum is understanding the type of learner in your courses. Each curriculum design plan includes a section to analyze the data from the learners.
While taking the Learning Theories class, I was able to learn about the research based theories and think of applications for each type of theory and learner. Thinking of how each theory would look like in the classroom helped solidify what to construct in each class for every type of learner. The artifact attached showcases the gradual learning of each theory throughout the course that also had me think of ways this would be observed in the classroom.
Using the knowledge from each type of theory and being aware of the type of learner in front of me also helps continue my learning to create activities that target different types of learners.

When I was looking at masters programs, I knew that curriculum development needed to be part of what I learned in order to be prepared for my career in curriculum and instruction.
For Curriculum Development, I chose to use the Curriculum Road Map for my artifact because it shows the culmination of what I have learned in several courses, including data analysis and research prospectus, to bring forth a targeted curriculum for the teachers that I will be training in my position.
Being able to identify the need and create a curriculum map from the data gathered is going to be important in my current and future career so that I can service different types of learners with the curriculum map understanding.

Data Analysis is very prominent in my career and taking a class that helps create purposeful surveys and analyzing that data in several manners took my work with data to the next level. In this artifact, the assignment was to break down the data that was given to us and interpret the numbers and information. It was fun and surprising how many ways one data set could be interpreted.
I was able to pick up several useful skills for this aspect of the competencies including creating a targeted survey and understanding qualitative and quantitative data. Manipulating data with different lenses was my favorite part of the skill and helped me prepare for analyzing my first set of exam information in my current position. I was able to communicate the trends and quantitative data that I found from the data and I look forward to continue using these skills in the future.

For this artifact, I chose the Organizational Improvement Plan to showcase the process of thinking through the local issues to create an improvement plan for our campus. This process is completed yearly for our campus so being able to gain more understanding of each step that is taken to create a team decision.
For my new role of Instructional Coach, I am a bigger part of these conversations at my campus so I am expected to bring a certain level of knowledge about the process and some researched based solutions. With this artifact, I was able to practice with some real life examples but without the final product needing to be used at my campus. I was also able to see how the campus uses information and data to continue to improve themselves, regardless of where they were the previous year.

I chose to focus on the coaching aspect for this artifact. I loved working through this scenario in the Instructional Coaching class because I was currently working with my teachers to set personal goals. I was able to use the skills I practiced in this scenario to help teachers create SMART goals and focus on what they really wanted to assess in their students.
Since I was attending a Coaching Leadership training through my school, I was able to combine the skills and knowledge from both this class and the school sessions to help create specific goals for the teacher in the scenario. I understood how to merge both sets of information to design specific data goals for Maria. I was also able to meet with a teacher at my school and use the same skills to set a goal with the teacher on my campus. It was a very informative process for me and for the teacher.

An important part of a career in Curriculum and Instruction is the assessment portion for each element you are creating, be it a assessing the actual curriculum or an assessment within the curriculum for the learners.
This assignment showcases the Kirkpatrick model for assessing curriculum. It was a clear model that can easily be used for any type of curriculum, if done backwards.
Gaining this skill will be useful when I begin to create curriculum for more than just the teachers at my local school since it will need to be fully vetted.

This artifact was chosen to show how I grew my understanding of a good leader. I have worked with bad leaders and I have worked with great leaders and, although I could point out the ways that separated them, I did not have the understanding of why one succeeded and the other did not.
After this assignment, I started analyzing the leaders around me and saw that the most successful leaders also exhibited many of the traits of an emotionally intelligent person. I also had a good foundation from which to base my work personality from. I believe I possess most of the skills to make me an emotionally intelligent leader, but I still needed this to help guide me the rest of the way.
This assignment and the information learned from it will help me be a successful leader in my career.
