As I worked on my strengths and weaknesses, I was able to learn new skills to specify what I wanted to get done and how would I obtain that. My previous goal was to "be able to participate more in class and take part in class discussions." But I did not specify why I wanted to reach this goal (purpose) or how I would get it done. The academic strengths that I have now that I didn't have before is that I am better at doing my Cornell notes according to the rubric and I feel more prepared when it comes to annotating text and understanding textual evidence. This makes writing essays or reflections easier/simpler. I can also recognize and use ethos, pathos and logos to my advantage. By using emotions, credibility, and facts/statistics, I can make my responses and essays closer to a college level. For example, when we were analyzing advertisements and the social studies article on Thomas Paine ("No Pain No Gain"), we were able to identify rhetorical strategies that the author's used, that before might've not been very obvious. The area I still need to work on is my communication skills. Public speaking is not my forte at all, but if I practice a lot to the point where I feel comfortable, this will make me stronger in that area. I would be able to present my thoughts in a coherent manner and not stutter as much. This would help me in future jobs and obtain more opportunities. As I move on into the 12th grade, my academic focus would be graduating with a high average and being prepared for college. I would make the choice to go to college to accomplish what my mother didn't have the opportunity to do in her home country, and to become a professional with a high earning salary. According to the annotations I have been producing between the time periods of first marking period to second marking period my grades on annotating have increased from 75%-92% which indicated how much I have worked on making my annotations better. My improvement on my annotating skills didn't just improve my grade overall but it helped me understand the text that was assigned. For example “No Pain No Gain” was a tricky text because there were meanings within meanings. Annotating helped me think about the deeper meaning of a text , with the use of annotating I was able to bring out the messages the author was trying to convey to his readers. Moving along into the 3rd marking period my goal is work on making connections in my writing.The academic strengths that I have developed that I didn’t have before is being able to understand why authors use  rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos and logos). Authors use rhetorical appeals to influence an audience by making them feel certain emotions and to enhance the flow, clarity, style, and tone of one's writing. I mastered understanding why authors use this technique in writing. On the flip side, I still need to start using rhetorical appeals in my writing to make it stronger and more effective when it comes to illustrating my point in order to send clear message to my readers. Moving along to the 12th grade (final grade) my academic focus within literature is to learn how to analyze multitudes of texts and write clearly using several different writing styles. Mastering several different writing techniques will also help me refrain from the use of colloquiums when It comes to developing speaking skills. In college I will continue to the course of literature to help me critically analyze any text I encounter in the future. After the two first marking periods of my ELA AVID class I have completed my goal and have developed a new goal for the 3rd marking period. My goal before was to achieve 80% high on annotations/cornell notes and my average for this class, my new goal is to do better peer editing because it is an important skill need to give you and your peers feedback in order to do better in the work. The academic strengths that I have gain are writing better conclusion and annotations not only that but I have gain the knowledge on how to identify and use rhetorical devices such as Pathos(Emotions), Logos(Logic), and Ethos(Credibility) in my class work. The areas that will be my academic focus is peer editing and responding to other students work for the sake of giving the best feedback to my peers so the will understand what they did wrong, what they could of added, and what they should continue using. My Academic focus is to get a higher SAT score
, graduate and get to a good college, from there on my profession focus will be Software Engineering and Electrical Engineering Courses and then get a job around those Careers which I will actually will enjoy working in and live my life.

In the beginning of the semester the goal I set for my self was to improve my annotations. The reason I set that as my goal is because out of all my assignment grades my annotation assignments use to get the worst grade. I use to never get nothing higher than a 65% on my annotation assignments. Since I was getting low grades on my annotations I decided that I needed to improve my annotating skills. So that’s what I did ! I began practicing on my annotating , every assignment I got I annotated the text using the annotation rubric.The annotation rubric helped me improve on my annotations because i was able go back and make sure i had all the requirements needed to pass the annotation part of the annotating part of my assignment. As time went on I notice that my annotation grades increased from a 65% to a 92%. My goal have been accomplished,being able to annotate better helped me think about the deeper meanings or passages,articles and/or text that i received in English class. Another skill that annotating helped me with is being able to complete my cornell notes because i was able to incorporate the questions and notes to build my cornell notes. The same way my annotation grade increased, my cornell notes increased as well. Those are signs or improvement. An academic strength that I have now that i didn't have before is

I think I have achieved my goal to an extent. The reason that I think I haven't fully accomplished my goal is because I haven't developed my annotation skills up to my expectations, I have developed but not up to my own standards that I have set for myself. And the reason I think I have developed my annotations is because my annotations went up from 60-70% to 80.I have picked up some new skills along the way like listening, I use to start my work right after getting the instruction without looking at it's details and mess up my work. That bad "habit" of mine use to effect my grade significantly. But now that hardly happens to me unless I'm in some kind of rush. The goals for my last year classes is to increase my GPA and try to get above 90 in general. And develop 90% annotating in my text''. I did passed all my classes but got a low passing score on my first marking period grade. For my third marking period i will work harder to bring my grade for my classes to 85 and above. My annotations so far in my english class have started off with a low 50%-60% to a high 70%-80%. A high GPA is what i want to focus on during my school year with a high GPA of 3.0 and up at most.For my 12th grade year i will put everything aside and focus on my school work. I will participate in Interships and do scholarship opportunites. I want to work on my overall my overall average to reach my college standards. For my school year I want to focus more on my  STEM science classes  to be able to better myself in that specific area. For college I want to study animal science and continue on my education towards Vet school as a veterinarian technician as my career goal.

Now that I am at the end of the second marking period I have improved in annotating and citing evidence by breaking a text down piece by piece for an better understanding, finding the importing facts, the theme as well as making notes with highlights . With the accomplishment and improvements in my goals I'm am more comfortable with using the five pointers circling and underling, vocabulary and definition, summering each section as well as asking questions that relate to the text. For the rest of the school year I want to continue to take these steps with every task I receive along with my journey through out college . I would want to go to college to peruse in the major of business and with this major I would need to be strong in my writing, able to think outside of the box with a clear view and being creative along the way as well as being able to mange working papers and money. Now that we have ended the second marking period and now going into the third marking period, I was able to achieve my goal of citing clear evidence from the text at least 90% of the time in a piece of writing. This was one of my goals for the second marking period because when I used to write my essays before, I would cite evidence but the evidence I cited would not be strong enough to back up my argument which affected my grade because my argument was strong but my evidence was weak. Now when I cite my evidence I tend to look for the strongest piece of evidence that would support my argument effectively. An area I need to focus on more is my second part of my goal which is being specific with my inferences about a text. I need to work in this part of my goal because when I used to make inferences about a specific text, my inferences would be very vague and it would include any details to support that inference. Now when I make inferences about a specific text its a little more detailed but it still isn't strong enough to support that text. An academic strengths that I acquired that I didn't have before is group leadership. Before I acquired this skill, I used to just go along with other ideas without going the extra mile to express my own ideas to my peers which would ruin the purpose of being in a group. Currently, I take the initiative to express my own ideas to my group which allows us to discuss our ideas in a meaningful way and gain a strong understanding of the task at hand. As I move into my 12th grade year, my personal focus for this year is to pass all my classes with a 95-100% and to focus on my computer based classes so I can gain the knowledge and experience to move on to college and major in computer science or information technology. I want to focus on these two goals specifically because most students tend to slack off when its their last year in high school but I believe you should stay focus and  always strive for greatness no matter what because you never know what opportunities can be granted to you and I want to focus on my computer based classes the most because I want to work with the MTA in the near future and in order to be the best at what I want to do I want to gain enough experience from my computer classes .

I also initially said that I would be better at annotating. I said that I would be able to do this 90% of the time and that I would be able to do this by the end of the second marking period.  Now that the second marking period is over, I have grown when it comes to analyzing different stories and articles. I have been able to make a lot of connections from the story to real life. Examples of these connections are text to self, text to text, and text to world. I still have to improve on my annotating skills. I have to make better questions and define more complex vocabulary words. Going into my senior year, my main focus would be to become better at annotating different stories and articles. When it comes to annotating, I became better when it comes to capturing the big ideas in the texts. The problem that I am struggling with is being able to make level 3 questions and to define more complex vocabulary words. So that will be my main focus in my senior year.  My professional focus would be to go to college. I want to go to college to become either a computer technician or to be a part of law enforcement. I have made the computer technician choice because my IT Fundamentals shop class is my favorite class. I love to learn about computer engineering. I made the law enforcement choice because I watch a lot of movies/shows with cops in them.

I have accomplished this and much more I read the text at a faster pace now and I am able to annotate 90% of the text now to the point where if I look back at a specific paragraph and glance at my annotations I will know what its about without having to read the whole paragraph again. My academic focus now for my senior year is to keep my overall average for each marking period at or above an 85.My focus after high school would be to go to college and get my degree in engineering. One of the main reasons I've set this goal is because i have noticed a trend from the beginning of the year which was that i procrastinate and get distracted quite easily. This goal was sort of a counter measure for that in some ways... After starting to put my goal into effect i noticed that it dint matter that id get distracted anymore.
