We also got more money from buying up land from native Americans all while giving them smallpox and other diseases they had no immunity to. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>The U.S and Britain occupied the Oregon country we wanted all the land.</li><li> when James Polk became president, "54-40 or fight" was widespread.</li><li> We couldn't afford another war with Britain, and Britain was less defensive.</li><li>compromise was made. We got Oregon country at the 49 parallel. We got the Columbia river and they got Vancouver island.</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
