Hello, I'm Michael George O. Lewis. A B.S Psychology student from the Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao. Music has always been a part in my life. I always carry around earphones with me on the go, so that I am able to listen to music when I'm on the public transport or while doing schoolwork. Music genre does not matter to me, but for this I am choosing OPM music. OPM or Original Pinoy Music was a term that was established in the 70s and 80s as a successor to the 'Manila Sound' era.

OPM

The OPM definition refers to any musical composition with or without lyrics, originally created by a, Filipino, whether the lyrics be in Pilipino, English or other foreign languages, or any other Philippine dialect. Because of that, the band I want to feature in this Padlet is IV of Spades. This band is one of the reasons why I got into OPM. Due to their Alternative / Indie music style, I found IV of Spades to be a unique band due to their fusion of various genres, such as disco, funk, and rock, into their music. As well as their distinct fashion style and theatrical performances.

According to the Uses and Gratification Theory, individuals actively choose and use media to satisfy their personal needs and desires. In the case of IV of Spades, their unique blend of music genres, fashion styles, and theatrical performances may fulfill the entertainment and escapism needs of their audience. The band's incorporation of retro elements into their music and style may also provide a sense of nostalgia and comfort for their listeners. Additionally, their emphasis on individuality and self-expression may appeal to those seeking validation and empowerment through their musical preferences.

The band's lyrics often address themes of love, relationships, and self-reflection. Which may provide emotional gratification for their listeners by resonating with their personal experiences and struggles. Overall, IV of Spades' unique music style, fashion, and interactive social media presence, along with their relatable lyrics, may fulfill various needs and desires of their audience, contributing to their growing popularity and success in the Filipino music industry.
