Passionate
• “I never got over that… …That that was what one person could do for another, fix him up—set up the problem, make him all right again. That was the most marvelous thing in the world…I wanted to do that. I always that it was the one concrete thing in the world that a human being could do. Fix up the sick, you know—and make them whole again. …I wanted to cure. It used to be so important to me. I wanted to cure. It use to matter. I use to care.” P. 133

Explanation: This quote shows that Beneatha is very passionate abut being doctor. She cares about helping people which shows she passionate about human beings too. Beneatha has been passionate about being a doctor throughout the whole book because she wants to help people. She has been passionate since she saw the doctors "fix up" the boy. Even after everyone told her not to be a doctor she didnt listen and she was still passionate about it.

Stubborn
“Get over it? What are you talking about, Ruth? Listen, I’m going to be a doctor. I’m not worried about who I’m going to marry yet – IF I ever get married.”

Explanation: This quote shows that Beneatha is very stubborn about her being a doctor and about who she is gonna marry. People in the book have told Beneatha that she shouldnt be a doctor and that she shouldnt be a doctor cause shes a female but she didnt listen to them because she is stubborn and knows what she wants. Also, she has been stubborn about her love life and who she is gonna marry. People tell her to marry George because hes rich but she has feeling for Asagai. She never wanted to talk about marriage and never wanted to marry George for his money even though her family told her to because shes stubborn.

I think that Beneatha is stubborn and passionate but i believe that gets her into trouble. When Beneatha is passionate about being a doctor and someone gets in the way of her dream, she shuts down and becomes very sad and covers it up by being angry. Beneatha is stubborn also, she is stubborn about being a doctor and about who she wants to marry. These qualities make Beneatha make different and cause trouble but also help her out in the long run because she'll never quit or give up her dream.

The art piece I chose was the Human Anatomy by Leonardo da Vinci because Beneatha dreams of being a doctor and the point of the piece is the human anatomy. Colors in these piece didn't play a part in it because this is just a sketch. This image relates to Beneatha because she dreams of being a doctor and the human anatomy is an important part of being a doctor. The mood for this piece is pretty basic because all it is the human anatomy. Leonardo da Vinci had made many human anatomy drawing but this is probably the most famous one.

Her family wants her to choose George because he's rich. She has feeling for Asagai though. She doesn't like talking anut her personal life and gets angry when people bring it up. She wants to choose between the two of them without her family's opinion. Beneatha ends up choosing Asagai because she has actual feelings for him and doesn't listen to her family and marry George cause of his money.

This shows the relationship between Asagai and Beneatha. In the book, Asagai thinks that Beneatha is trying to be someone else and is "mutilating" her hair by straightening it. He believes that she is trying to assimilate to America instead of embracing her African roots. He doesn't agree with her trying to be someone else. He thinks that shes is beautiful just the way she is, which is stated in the song.

The theme of the book is gender/feminism.
Quote:• Walter to Beneatha: “Who the hell told you you have to be a doctor? If you so crazy ‘bout messing ‘round with sick people—then go be a nurse like other women—or just get married and be quiet…” p. 38

I think the theme of the book is "gender and feminism". The quote that i choose relates to my theme by showing that Walter thinks that women can't be doctors, only nurses. That shows what Walter believes women aren't equal to men and don't deserve the same things as men. Throughout the book, Walter has showed that he is sexist. That's why i think the theme is gender/feminism.
