Rejuvenation of the 9-Line Biking Trail and Jordan River Trail

The 9-line biking trail divides the northern and southern stretches of the Glendale neighborhood along what is roughly considered 900 South. The pathway was once an active railway that later fell out of usage and remained desolate for years. Within the last three years, this abandoned track was converted into an asphalt bike path that now connects Redwood Road with the extensive Jordan River Trail. While this stretch had remained very much neglected over the years, Salt Lake County workers have recently begun construction on significant functional and aesthetic improvements to the former rail line. Along the line one can see dozens of new trees planted along the perimeter with supporting sprinkler systems and the probable beginning of a drinking fountain. As the community grows more actively invested in the neighborhood — as is already occurring with increased foot and bike traffic along the route — this is likely to develop into a distinct social and recreational asset.

Supermercado

Supermercado has been an active local grocery store in this community over the course of the last 20 years. On Google maps, this store carries the name of Tejeda's Market, while the sign on the front of the structure reads "My Neighborhood Grocery Store." Locals who pay patronage to this location praise it for its convenient location and abundance of products imported from Mexico. While Supermercado seems more like a specialty import store rather than a traditional neighborhood grocery, the imported products and atmosphere is the store's greatest asset — additionally, they have all of the essentials. The market is a definite community asset.

Glendale has long remained among the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in Salt Lake City, which, along with its concentration of low-income housing, has generated unwarranted and problematic stigma and prejudice from some residing in more historically affluent neighborhoods in the city. Fixtures like the First Vietnamese Baptist Church on California Ave. highlight one of the many varied cultural communities that have long called this neighborhood home. The coexistence and intermingling of a multitude of cultures is among Glendale's most definitive and essential characteristics.

This family-owned sit-down burger joint is a Glendal e classic and has remained a frequented novelty since as long as many local residents can remember. The restaurant displays memorabilia reminding visitors of the neighborhood's connection with The Sandlot (1993) and the fire station that was once located on the building's foundations. Even during the COVID19 crisis, this historical community landmark remains operational.
