As well as the imparting of children's understanding of diversity and cultural differences. Book banning supports historical distortion and the misunderstanding of controversial matters that are changing society.

When the topic of banning books is brought up often times the defense is that it is to protect kids from unsuitable content such as sexual content, which makes sense. The protection of children is in everyone's interest. But that quickly loses its standing when the trend of the books being banned have less to do with sexual content and more to do with race and lqbtq+ related content.

The world we are living in is far from perfect and our children are apart of it. When children are introduced to serious uncomfortable topics it allows them to think about the world around them. Rather than shielding them from the reality in which they will grow up. Having books on these topics helps prepare them.
