A majority of our group left during filming and left us with little to no footage. Although I did not present a movie, I was able to see my classmates films when they presented. One that really stood out to me was "Birds in the hood" which was about a bird who tried to fly and fell into the wrong neighborhood.

The movie was overall one of the best presented. Some major takeaways were the humor and the acting. The movie was funny and had lots of jokes throughout the movie, and the acting was great. There were some major problems with the film, though, the video quality was very inconsistent and they were struggling to keep the actors in frame. Sometimes scenes were in portrait and some other scenes were in landscape. We were also tasked to include ten different types of shot and camera movement to show our understanding of them. The original plot of the movie was a boy who had magic powers and went on a rampage killing students and is later defeated and the students are saved. We added a backstory to the main character and showed that he got his characters by making a deal with some magical being. The original movie had very little lines dialogue so we tried to include more in our movie by showing the students interacting with each other in a school setting. We chose to include close ups, long shots, over the shoulder shots, panning left and right, three shots, two shots, wide shots, zooming in and out, tracking in and out, and high angle shots because we felt they would be the best fit for our film. I played Jesus in our film and I revived the dead students and defeated the evil main character. In the original movie a random student killed the main character but we felt that Jesus would make more sense.

Overall our movie was well received although it could of used more work, especially the sound quality and how the pacing was of the movie. The movie started out very slow and climaxed very fast and abruptly ended and the poor sound quality made it hard to understand some scenes. I think that we put too many wide shots which made the movie feel less intimate and made it hard to connect with the characters. We also had only a small amount of zooming which sometimes made it hard to show what we wanted the audience to focus on, the scenes that did include zooms allowed us to better understand what we were supposed to focus on, especially the scene where the murderer finds out that the body was found. Although I think that we did a great job with our depth in the movie. We were able to set the scene nicely by using the walls and benches surrounding us and interacting with them especially in the scene where the everyone is told about the first body. From a story perspective, we were trying to make a movie that was supposed to be funny yet serious at the same time. I think we were able to achieve that and picked the right shot and camera movement.

Those genres being comedy, war, thriller, musical, mystery, horror, superhero, romance, sci-fi, sports, drama, crime, animation, family, fantasy, historical, young adult, Shakespeare. We studied the story, characters, their representations, setting, iconography, and values. We also studied their cinematic elements like camera work, lighting, editing, and special effects. Audience expectations such as emotions and reactions were also studied. We also watched three different movie clips from three different time periods that highlighted the genre. Some of the films we watched were hybrids which are movies that consist of many genres in one movie.

After discussing with my group about what genre our movie remake was, we determined that it was a hybrid of horror and comedy and our first one was a hybrid of crime and drama. We conformed to conventions in our first movie by having our main character commit a crime by stalking and having him be hidden in the background of different scenes. We used codes common in crime and drama such as lots of tracking and POV shots to show the stalker point of view during the pursuit. We were able to make our audience feel anxious by adding unsettling music and withholding information until the end. Although we did break some conventions and codes such as not fleshing out characters as much as we wanted and not using closeups to feel more intimate with the main character. I think we could of represented the drama and crime genres better if we adding these.

Although there are many genres, I can confidently say that crime is my favorite genre. If I was in charge of making a crime film, I would make a movie about three men who decide to rob a bank at night. After sneaking in the vault undetected, the men would get as much valuables as they could then realize the vault door has closed on them. The men would have to find a way to get out before security comes to check in the morning. After a couple hours of the men talking and getting to know the characters more, they would try and escape through a vent only to find out the vent lead to main lobby of the bank and they are still stuck.

We expanded the most upon on editing and created documents featuring over 20+ types of editing techniques. We also watched "The Cutting Edge" and various videos on color so we could have a deeper understanding of it. In addition to the editing movie we also watched "Making Waves" so we could better understand sound in movies. To better understand screenplays we read The Incredibles script and made our own scripts using screenplay software and wrote our own script for a 2 minute horror movie about somebody having a nightmare.

For our midterm film we had various requirements we had follow. Our movie had to be 1-2 minutes in length, horror/horror hybrid, and "opening" instead of full movie, minimal dialogue, a focus on music and sound effects, no long takes, starting in black with our company indent/logo and title, a straight cut or dissolve from the title, a minimum of three crosscuts between the nightmare, and to be completely directed, shot, and written by the student. We also had to feature certain conventions including one close up, one Dutch angle, one high or low angle, a low key lighting set or silhouette, one pan or tilt or track or spin around, one zoom or dolly zoom, one subliminal cut or multitake or smash cut, one match cut, one J cut or L cut, one use of slow or fast motion, one instance of visual complexity in setting choice (color, texture, depth, lines, shape), three sound effects, three instances of incidental music or sound motif. For extra credit we could add quick cuts, montages, POV shots and other types of shots and sound.

I was able to adhere to many horror codes, conventions, and audience expectations such as low key lighting, fast paced story, and uncertainty. Although we did break a couple of conventions such as not using many close-ups and other closer shots to convey emotion. I tried to represent the fear and hopelessness of somebody invading a house in the middle of the night and being mostly defenseless and scared. The added low key lighting in the movie helps create a sense of uneasiness during the movie.

The movie was very successful because we use low key lighting throughout the movie especially during the scene where the robber kicks the door to get into the room. He slowly walks into the room looking for Johnathan and we are unable to see visually where he is hiding until a later shot. Although in the movie, the cuts between Johnathan sleeping and the nightmare were quick cuts which made it hard to tell what was the nightmare and what wasn't. We used Arc Studio to write our screenplay, our phones to record footage, and premiere pro and audio from adobes stock music and sound effects. 2. What is the genre and who is target audience for this film?

Tall Girl 2 is a romance comedy movie that is intended for young adults and teenagers.

3. Describe the opening credits and title sequences, including and company logos or indents. When do they appear? What font/color are they using? How does it "align" with the opening of the film? Anything else you notice?

The film opens up with a shot of a city and shows the production studio and name of the film. The font tries to make the text look as if it was written in bubble letters with a white pencil which helps the movie connect more to high school.

4. Describe the sound -- a "sound by sound" analysis of the entire first two minutes.

Throughout the first two minutes of the movie there is an upbeat pop song playing as the two main characters explain how their relationship came to be which recaps the first movie. The first scene which shows how because of Jodi being tall she is constantly ridiculed by other people which can be heard multiple times, when she walks in the hallway she is asked "hows the weather up there" and in the locker room is called "sasquatch" As they are introducing the new student from Tall Girl 1 there is a voice over from Jodi explaining how she felt after he humiliated her at a party. Next we see Jodi giving a speech about her height and how she is embracing it as the whole crowd cheers. It cuts to a man at a desk asking "What brings you in today" and the music stops and the scene ends.

5. Describe how you felt at the end of the two minutes. Did you want to know more? What was left hanging, if anything? What questions do you still have?

At the end of the first two minutes I wanted to know more about how this movie would contribute to the two main characters. Since they showed so much of the first movie it seemed that everything was resolved and there was no need for a second movie, which makes me wonder what conflict will arise in this one and contribute to the sequel.

6. How would you describe the editing style in this clip? Any particular techniques you noticed, or length of shots?

During the first two minutes, it is easily noticeable that there is not a wide range of diversity used when cutting the movie, throughout the first two minutes it mainly consists of jump cuts which goes along with the recapping of the last movie. Most shots are short in length being around 5-10 seconds which is then expanded upon with the voice over.

7. How did these first two minutes adhere to conventions?

The first two minutes adhered to many of the conventions of romance movies by featuring the two common characters of romance movies being a male and female relationship. It also takes place in a common setting throughout romance films being a school.

8. How did these first two minutes break with conventions?

The film tried to break conventions of typical romance movies by making Jodi taller than Jack. Primarily in romance movies it is not common for a woman to be taller than a man especially when she is over a foot taller, the movie also expands upon this by showing how Jack doesn't mind her being taller than him and still loves her regardless.

9. How did these first two minutes represent social groups or people or issues?

The first two minutes were able represent how our society does not like to accept people who aren't "normal" Jodi is constantly bullied throughout the movie because of her height and is even humiliated by someone who she looked up to.

10. Why do you think this film was originally distributed the way it was?

I think the film was distributed to streaming service instead of in theaters because it does not appeal to any major groups of people and only applies to a niche audience. The movie also did not have a major budget and it the distribution costs would easily be more than the production cost. The movie is also made by Netflix, which allows them to put it onto their site with no cost to them.

11. EXTRA CREDIT: Any other thoughts or comments or realizations you had about film openings after viewing this clip

After viewing the first two minutes of "Tall Girl 2" I noticed that the movie took an approach to its opening that is becoming more and more popular. The movie shows the characters at the present time then keeps showing what led up to there and then ends back at the present time. This style of opening is becoming increasingly more popular withing the romance genre.

From our research into other romance movies we are able to imitate the conventions and codes that they use to better convey our romance movie to the masses.

We plan for our logo to be made with a mix of different Adobe Products such as Photoshop and After Effects so we are able to provide the highest quality possible. Many romance movies feature a cursive font and a white/black color to its title and credits that make it look as if it was written with a pencil or pen. If we mimic this we are able to fit better into the romance genre and adhere to conventions.

When it come to transitions for our film we would want to use transitions that are primarily found in romance movies especially wipes and fades which creates a smooth, gradual cut to the next scene.

When it comes to our sound considerations our movie is supposed to go along with the song "See you later (Ten years)" by Jenna Raine. Although this song is copyrighted under the Warner Bros. Record label there are certain things we can do that will allow us to use the music even though it is copyrighted because it can fall under fair use. Since our film is similar to many "chick flicks" on streaming services it would only make sense for our movie to be distributed on streaming services instead of a theatrical release. To get our movie onto streaming services we would have to find an aggregator that we think would be the best fit for us. The Aggregator that would work the best for us would be Bitmax. Bitmax's strong reputation along with their pricing makes them a strong choice as our aggregator. Although we would have to contact them directly to find out the cost to get the film to streaming services, Bitmax's pricing starts at around $600, which is more than affordable for a movie like ours.

2. Our films title "See You Later" perfectly ties into our film since the song "See You Later" overlays the visuals in the film. Since our film title is so short and memorable because "See You Later" is a common phrase, our title will definitely resonate with our audience.

3. For our tagline, we want something familiar and fresh but memorable. The tagline "Love came when she needed it most" Our tagline does resemble similarities to the values of our audience by using the value of love. Our tagline also goes along with our films opening as we hear the mans voice as she is about to walk into the water, and he saves her.

4. The target audience for our movie would be women aged 13-25 and couples. Factors such as income and education wont matter much considering the age of our target audience, however we want people that have previous interest in romance movies and frequently binge them. We also want people that hold values such as tragic love, sentimental love, and love at first sight, and consider love as an important aspect of life.

5. To reach our target audience we need to go after things they would be doing in their daily lives to maximize our films visibility. We would be able to achieve this by buying advertisement space for streaming services that feature plans with advertisements. Since many streaming services have a plan with ads during movies, people who binge romance movies will be able to be exposed to our movie over and over again. Buying advertisement space on social media sites popular with our target audience like Instagram would also allow us to reach our target audience. Using Google's advertisement system we would be able to advertise on YouTube and appear on the top of googles search bar for romance movies.

6. To get out audience members to be engaged and active, we could do giveaways for movie merch through our social media pages and have people get entries for the giveaway by promoting our movie with the hashtag #SeeYouLaterMovie.

7. For our movies promotional material, we would try and incorporate colors that fare fitting for our movie. Since most of our movie takes place during sunset at the beach, deep shades of yellow, orange, and red would represent our movie the bed. For our background we would want it to represent the colors we chose earlier, so a beach sunset would make the most sense. For our foreground we could put the main character trying to reach out to her partner as he walks away. We would either put just their silhouette or turn down the contrast to make it seem as we are seeing the side of them not getting any sunlight. Iconography that would represent our movie the best would be a broken heart, which we could incorporate into the poster. For our font we would want to use a font common in romance movies which is usually fonts that make it seem as if it was written in pen.

8. For many romance films that have recently been released, they have been distributed exclusively on streaming services instead of theatrical releases. This is mostly due to romance movies usually being binged and having multiple of them watched in a day instead of going and watching a single one. Towards the beginning of our production process, we got to see firsthand how hard it is to find the perfect shot composition. For some of our clips we had issues such as incorrect aspect ratio or a shot that was too close/far. We were able to overcome this in postproduction by changing the orientation of the shot from portrait to landscape by cutting off the top and bottom or zooming in and out or reshooting. By doing this we were able to keep our films clips more consistent and have the clips flow better. Another major issue we saw was that our audio quality was hindered due to it being shot at the beach, with all the background noise and wind. To counter this we were able to separate the audio from our clip and put it through Audacity, which is an audio editing software. Here we were able to reduce the background noise and overall increase the quality of our films audio. From feedback in our first rough cut we were able to trim some of our clips that were too long or too short and add clarity to some clips by adding additional clips for context and adding graphics.
