Lincoln's 1863 Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction

Written from Lincoln to the general public. Specifically for the Confederate states, which offered the citizens of those states to come back into the union, being pardoned, as long as they went against slavery.

Also gave the Confederate States an easy way to rejoin the Union.

It was nicknamed the 10 percent plan because it allowed a state to be readmitted once 10% of its voters took the oath.

This document, which is a speech given by William Garrison, points out the way that the U.S. has strayed from its morals and how the country was born upon the thought that you could come here with nothing and build a life for yourself, IE The American Dream is not the reality anymore and this speech also goes into depth about the hypocrisy in the United States and further calls for the immediate abolishment of slavery. There were lots of varying opinions on this topic, and some of them were people who liked slavery and thought that it was something good that helped the U.S. economy. Then, there were the people who had good morals and hated slavery. They thought that it did nothing to help the U.S., and it was very bad. They also thought that it went against everything that they thought the Constitution stood for. This led to and deepened the divide between the North and the South.
