Tio Luis is a horrible greedy man who only cares about himself and his reputation. When Esperanza saw him wearing Papa's belt, she filled up with anger. I agree with Esperanza, if I saw someone I hate with a belt (or anything else)of a dead loved one I would be angry too. Not too long after Papa died Tio Luis said that sadness doesn't suit Ramona which is absolutely rude. To conclude, Tio Luis is a very unpleasant man.

When she sees her mother with the poor box she says "Mama at a time like these, must we worry about some poor family who needs clothes." She literally doesn't realize her WHOLE HOUSE JUST BURNED DOWN. Not only that, but on the train she snatches the doll out of a little kids hands, and makes them cry. I mean honestly how blind can you be? You have no home and you're moving to a different country to escape your uncle! Do you still not realize you have less than the other people on the train, and if you still think that you're on the top of the world...YOUR NOT.

In the first few pages of the book, Esparanza's father had died, being killed by bandits. Then, Tio Luis had burned their house. Now Esparanza has to leave for the United States! I think it was Papa's brothers who had murdered him, because when they came back, they were carrying Papa's belt, not his body. And Papa always wears his belt! Tio Luis and his brother must have killed him for their power!

The chapters we just read are insane. Right off the bat her dad died and everything she knew and loved. And her already horrible uncle becomes even worse! Due to the fact of her father's death ( I think it was Luis who killed him) she feels empty and sad and will never be the same. I think that they will have to fly to California but like Her Abuelita said they didn't get what they promised. I think that their servants want to treat them like they did to them so they will have a livable but hard life. Even though Esperanza is selfish I feel like there is goodness deep down in her locked up because of her fathers passing. I can make a connection to Blood on the river because Miguel talks about working hard to make it in life; and in blood on the river Samuel works really hard to make it in life and stay alive. My prediction is that they will go to California and actually leave them and go find another life.

But tragedy struck and now Ezperanza's papa has died from bandits when he was working in the fields. When this happened her life became more tragic when her barely known Tios Luis took over her papa's business. Because of this, they had leave Mexico

and live in California in the U.S.A. But just like Samuel, and Brian, Esperanza's Life will turn into an uptrend. She just needs to develop mastery and hope for her new life as a peasant.

In the chapter we read today we learned that Esperanza is using public transportation, to travel to California in America. She thought she would be in the fancy part of the train but her mama can afford it and Esperanza is complaining that it's dirty, there are too many peasants, and it's kind of sketchy. After she sat down a poor peasant girl tried to touch Esperanza's Porcelain doll but she yanked it away before she could even feel it. After that, she ran to her mom crying. When Her mama sees this she scolds her and says she should let her hold it for at least a little while. Then, her mama makes a doll for the poor girl and smiles. Then a lady named Carmen joined the train with the hens. She told them about her life and her troubles, and then Mama told her about her troubles. Carmen understands and then asks Esperanza if she wants some candy she looks at her mama for her approval and takes the candy from her bag. As you can see Esperanza's life is starting to gain some luck... But how long will it really last?

A Intence begining

In the begining part of the book, it seemed alright. Her father was with her, and they lived in " El Rancho do las Rosas " They seemed to have everything they could have wished for. They had nice dresses, and a Manchin to live in. This is all becuase of their father, who was a rich ranch owner. When he went to the other side of his ranch, and bandits came and comfronted him. Was it the bandits, though? I had a perdiction that Tio Luis and Tio Marco had actully killed Esperanza's father. They wanted to take the farm, and have Ramona was a wife. Ramona wanted to never marry again, after her husband died, or Esperanza's papa. Toi Luis and Tio Marco soon came after they "discovered" Esperanza's father was dead. He offered Ramona a porposel, and she had declined it strongly. He had warned her that she could continute living here, but she would have high prices, and had to be prepared. I felt saadness pull in my belly. I thought, " For the begining of the book, why be intence and plop sadness into a so- called intresting story? " I soon figured it all out. It was to take a readers attention. A demadic begining for a intence book. When I first started it, it seemed happy and like nothing could ever go wrong. How she layed down, and felt/herd the earths hart beating.

Once the house set on fire, everything seemed to be wrong. Her nightmare, and how she felt scared, and worried. When she couldn't find her Abulitia, my heart skipped a beat. It was so intence, but not as intecne as ...

Esperanza's life was perfect. She had hundreds of dolls, and dresses. Her family had hundreds of acres of land, and many servants and friends. Esperanza is about to turn 13 when her Papa leaves with some friends to work. While her mother begins to plan her party. Esperanza's Papa has not came yet so they begin to get worried. They send Alfonso and Miguel to find Papa. As they wait for Papa they talk to Abuela. Then a wagon comes, its not Alfonso and Miguel it is Papa's brothers. Papas brothers don't care about Esperanza at all. they treat her like she is nothing. Strangely Tio Luis (One of her uncles) touches her shoulder. this shows Esperanza how scared they are about Papa. Finally Alfonso, and Miguel come back with Papas dead body in there wagon. Everyone is heart broken. Papa, and all of his friends were killed by bandits. They have a three day long funeral for Papa. When the funeral is over the lawyer comes to their house. Esperanza notices that Tio Luis is sitting in Papas office and he is wearing Papas belt buckle. Esperanza thinks that it is not right. Tio Luis is now incharge of the land, and he proposes to Esperanzas mom. She says that she will never marry him. Tio Luis says that if she says no that he will make her life very hard! They all go back to their house still sad about Papa. Miguel and Esperanza have a moment (Hinting romance), and Esperanza's mom is left to think about their life. when Esperanza wakes up the house is burning! Everyone panic's. Esperanza and her mom can't find Abula. Miguel rushes into the house and luckily saves Abula. Abula is badly injured. Esperanzas mom accepts the proposal. She lied. they begin to plan their escape. They are able to get a wagon and cover themselves with guavas. They all begin to tell each other stories about the ranch. after a long ride they finally get to the train. The train is filled with poor people. Esperanza is disgusted. She is also surprised that her mother is talking to the poor people. Esperanza thinks that their lives don't matter. Esperanza offends their servants who have been helping her, her whole life. Esperanza's mom becomes friends with a women who sells eggs. Esperanza does not like this women because she is poor. In conclusion I think Esperanza rising is a good book. (Please comment)

Esperanza had to stay at the camp with Isabel and help her with the babies. When Isabel asks her to throw the dirty diapers away she seemed hesitant but did it anyway with the diapers at arms length. Then, Isabel asked Esperanza to do laundry but she had no idea how to. After that she had to sweep outside on the platform but she did not know how to as well. Finally Marta sees her and makes fun of her for being bad at chores. When she goes back inside Miguel comes in and teaches her how to sweep.

She dropped the broom and ran to mama. She cried to mama. Miguel had teached her the way to use a broom. And after that Esperanza knew how to sweep the floor.

In Esperanza Rising, they experienced a dust storm. After the storm mama caught the Valley Fever. Valley Fever is a disease in your lungs that is caused by dust spores. The doctor came to check on mama. She can recover in 6 months! But she will recover if she survives. This is really sad because Esperanza already lost Papa and Aubelita was too far away. But the good side is she has Isabel and other people.

Starting Over

Esperanza is used to having people do things for her. She has a lot to learn, not to mention taking care of her mother. She needs to know that in the real world, she is just as important as everybody else around her. She feels that Marta should treat her with utmost respect, because she USED to live on Rancho de las Rosa's. But, she is now going to be treated like everybody else. Wake up, Esperanza!

But Esperanza is starting to understand this and take control of her predicament. She is helping her mother and Abeulita by working for the family and being willing to do the hard things.

After chapters of seeing Esperanza being so spoiled, she finally starts embracing the change. She has a good idea to work and try to figure it out on her own. For ounce, she didn't ask Miguel or Alfonso or one of the others to fix it for her. She put the problem in her hands and now she's going to fix it. Maybe at the end of the book Esperanza is back to her status to being rich and maybe Tio Lious and Tio Marko get fired or they have to be peasents now

She is finally maturing now that it matters most! She is also beginning to accept her new life, but she still misses her old life. Though Esperanza is still slightly spoiled, she is nearly accustomed to living in California. Also, the story is the opposite of blood on the river. In blood on the river, Samuel begins at the very bottom of the hierarchy, and climbs his way up in the new world. It was a fresh start. Meanwhile, Esperanza began at the top of the hierarchy and fell to the bottom. However, Esperanza can still adapt and have a better life. So far the story has had only down-trends, so in due time something good will happen. Even though the dirt from the storm affected Mama, Esperanza has to be strong and not let the dust cover her just like the blanket that was dirtied by the dust.

Wow, big change of events. Esperanza had her papa killed and we know it's hard for her. But she didn't have to act like a brat which she did before and lie that she is still rich, she is just gaslighting herself. But after a turn of events Esperanza finally realized the reality of the situation in which she is in. Almost all of her stubbornness is gone and she is probably one of the hardest working people now. Why is that? Because of fear and determination. As a wise man once said, "Fear and determination are the best motivators." And we know that Esperanza is afraid for her mom and she wants the money for Abuelita. I am genuinely impressed by the turn of the tide by how Esperanza has changed just like that. It's amazing how people can change so quickly. I also predict that her mama might die which might make her go into depression. But my other prediction is that she might actually get the money to support the money.

lately we have been seeing how spoiled Esperanza is. She has been rude to the poor, and she has not realised that her life is different. Esperanza needs someone to help her change, and Miguel was the first person to try. He says to Esperanza, "Have you never noticed? Those with spanish blood, who have the fairest complexions in the land, are the wealthiest." Esperanza doesn't want to believe it. She says that its something that old wives say. Miguel says its something that the poor say. Esperanza is left to think about her life choices. After a long and uncomfortable train ride they finally make it to Alfonso's family. Alfonso's family is made up of five people. Josefina, and her husband Juan . Then there is Isbal their oldest daughter. And their twins Pepe, and Lupe. Miguel has writing to Isabel about Esperanza, so Isbal (Who has always been poor) asks Esperanza a lot of questions about her life. Esperanza does not like answering the questions. I believe she does not like to answer the questions because she still thinks shes rich, but part of her knows shes not. So she doesn't like to think about it. Esperanza runs into a girl named Marta. Marta begins to bully Esperanza, and call her names. Esperanza is not used to being treated like this, so she doesn't do anything. Marta treats Esperanza like that because her family is poor. Her family has gone to hundreds of different camps to work, but they still don't get paid that well. Marta wants to strike, and she doesn't like people who have lived better then her. They leave Marta and head to there new home. They are going to live at a camp/farm. Esperanza is disgusted by the place, and even more horrified about there tiny little shack with news papers on the ceiling. Esperanza begins to complain again. Her Mom says to her that they had only one choice if they stayed in mexico, not be together and miserable. But in there new home they have two choices, be miserable together, or happy together. Esperanza thinks it's impossible to be happy in such a terrible place, but I think that you choose to be happy. Isbal is living in the shack to. Isbal continues to ask Esperanza dozens of questions. The next day Esperanza finds out that Everyone in there shack has to work. Her Mom is about to leave to work, when Esperanza notices that her hair is messy. Her mom gets embarrassed and leaves to work. Esperanza and Isabel begin to take care of the babies. Isbal does so much work, that she makes it look easy. Esperanza changes there diapers but forgets to clean them. Isbal cleans the diapers and Esperanza goes to sweep the platform. Esperanza has never sweepted a broom before so she moves it rapidly. Marta and some of her friends laugh at her so Esperanza runs back to the shack crying. Miguel walks in and forces Esperanza to get up, and try to sweep. Miguel teaches Esperanza how to sweep after a few failed attempts. Esperanza asks Isbal to help her learn how to clean diapers and feed the babies. Esperanza realizes that she is not still a queen, who has everything, she is a servant that needs to develop mastery. Esperanza begins to work hard, and learn new things. She also is becoming friends with the people at the farm. Esperanza and the shack group (that's what I am calling them) go to a party. at the party Marta and her friends tried to strike. The farm tells them to leave, but they still continues striking. Finally they leave after a lot of arguing. One day Esperanza is watching the babies, and some of her friends come over to sow. As they are talking a dust storm happens! they all begin to panic. Esperanza also gets worried about everyone outside. The dust is able to get inside from a crack in the window, luckily its not that much dust. After a long wait, the dust finally is gone. Mama, Hortensia, and Jophina (I know that I spelled her name wrong) come inside. they all look pale and dusty. Esperanza notices that mama coughs a lot. after a few hours Miguel, Jaun, and Alfonso come back, also looking dusty. Mama gets sick from the dust storm, and is not able to help the family/group. Esperanza steps up, and realizes that she has to help people. Mama gets taking to the hospital. Esperanza continues to work hard for the family, Esperanza has developed mastery. Esperanza, and Isabel make duals. Isbal is asking Esperanza questions still. Isbel begins to be like a friend to Esperanza. She comforts her and talks to her. In conclusion Esperanza has developed mastery after a hard life. A lot of you may be wondering why I haven't been able to make that many paddlets lately. I have not been able to because of many reasons. One of the reasons is that I don't have enough time to work on it. Another reason is that I have been having creative block. Its been hard for me to make paddlets lately. (Please comment)

Esperanza and Miguel go to a grocery store to buy stuff. Esperanza purchases a pinata filled with caramel for the nurses and her sick mama. However when they get home, a starving poor man with 2 kids asks them for any food. And they offer the poor family food and gave the 2 kids the pinata filled with caramel.

On the train, When a little girl wanted to hold her doll, Esperanza yanked it back because she said the girl was grimy. But, now, Esperanza was giving food to a poor family who hadn't eaten in two days. This shows a sign in Esperanza's growth. It is a sign she has changed.

Many people and strikers had to go back to Mexico, away from their families. Marta also has to go back and shes hiding in some stuff in the bus. Esperanza helps her and gives her stuff to cover herself in including an apron so Marta can pretend to be a worker.

pinata meaning ˙◠˙

when esperanza arrives at the striker's farm, she and miguel can see that immigration has rounded up all the strikers there. esperanza sees the remains of the donkey pinata beaten and mauled hanging from a string on a tree. i think this has a hidden meaning, and that the broken pinata is a metaphor for hope. but esperanza is strong, and we're overdue for an up-trend. so good things are hopefully coming ♡

But Esperanza is a peasant, too. When she was talking to Miguel, she didn't remember that. So Miguel told her, "And you still think you are a queen"
