----- The oil-drop experiment performed by Robert Millikan determined the size of the charge on an electron. He determined this by putting a charge on a drop of oil. He then measured how strong the electricity applied had to be to prevent the droplet from falling. By accumulating the mass of the oil drop and the force of gravity, he could then figure out the unit of charge the electron was carrying.
