         <description><![CDATA[<div>The 3 processes of memory are known as <strong>encoding</strong>, <strong>storage</strong>, and <strong>retrieval</strong>. Encoding is known as getting information into the memory system. Storage is retaining the information in memory over-time. Lastly, retrieval is getting information out of memory storage. <br><br>There are 3 different types of memory. These are known as <strong>sensory memory</strong>, <strong>short term memory</strong>, and <strong>long term memory</strong>. Sensory memory is known as brief encoding of sensory information. Short term memory is known as memory that lasts for a few seconds to minutes. Long term memory is known as memory that holds information for an extended period, potentially a lifetime.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

I remember the morning of prom I had to compete at a dance competition but left early.          <description><![CDATA[<div>A long-term memory I recall is my sister’s wedding. This day was extremely important to me and my family. Her wedding was held on September 10th, 2023, this past year. It was such a sappy, rememberable day. This long-term memory is also a <strong>flashbulb</strong> <strong>memory</strong> for me because it was emotionally driven. I cried when my sister had her ceremony and smiled/laughed all night long dancing at the reception.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Another memory strategy I actively use is by&nbsp;<strong>mnemonic devices</strong>. A known example of this is “ROY G. BIV”. By abbreviating it is a lot easier to remember a list, saying, etc. Instead of having to memorize a long list, for instance, by abbreviations you only have to memorize a word or two. Personally, I have used this before again in bio. By memorizing the first letter or two of a sentence and abbreviating it I could easily memorize information for a test.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One memory strategy I use to remember information is known as&nbsp;<strong>chunking</strong>. By breaking info into smaller manageable chunks, it is easier to remember. For instance, in bio this year whenever I studied for a test I separated all of the written questions I had to memorize for the test and separated the answers into smaller paragraphs so it wouldn’t be as overwhelming. Hence, easier to memorize.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Definition: <strong>Divergent thinking </strong>involves generating multiple creative solutions to a problem by exploring various possibilities and perspectives. It involves&nbsp;<strong>imagination</strong>.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Example: When babysitting for a kid, I encouraged divergent thinking by proposing alternative solutions to address a fit he had. By considering a range of perspectives and ideas, we were able to find a compromise that satisfied him. He wanted to use his tablet for longer but I told him we could “go to the park”, “play some legos”, or “draw.” He eventually found one that he liked and chose to go to the park.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Effectiveness: Divergent thinking fosters creativity and encourages exploration of unconventional solutions. It's effective in situations when faced with complex problems with multiple potential solutions. Divergent thinking may not be as suitable for situations that demand quick decision-making or where there's a clear, straightforward solution.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

For instance, if someone is trying to open a stuck window but only sees the screwdriver as a tool for tightening screws, they might overlook its potential to pry the window open. For example, if someone believes that drinking an energy drink is a healthy way to boost energy, they might only seek out information that supports this belief, ignoring evidence to the contrary.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Definition: <strong>Convergent</strong> <strong>thinking</strong> is a problem-solving strategy that involves narrowing down multiple possible solutions to a single, correct answer/best solution. It relies on <strong>logic</strong>, critical thinking, and evaluation to identify the most optimal outcome. It may also involve <strong>pro-con analysis</strong> which helps in weighing the advantages and disadvantages of a decision, facilitating more informed and balanced choices.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Example: Planning a budget for a family trip</div><div>When my family was planning a trip to Florida a few years ago we had a limited budget, and decisions that needed to be made regarding transportation, accommodation, and activities.</div><div>We evaluated different transportation options (driving vs. flying), compared costs and benefits of various accommodation choices (hotels vs. Airbnb), and selected activities that fit within our budget constraints. After weighing the pros and cons of different options, we decided to drive to Florida instead of flying to save money, choose budget-friendly accommodations, and prioritized free or low-cost activities such as going to the beach.&nbsp;</div><div><br>Effectiveness: Convergent thinking is effective in situations where there's a clear goal or correct answer, such as budget planning, problem-solving in structured environments, or decision-making with limited resources. It focuses attention on the most promising solutions and optimizing outcomes. However, convergent thinking may not be as effective in contexts that require creativity, innovation, or exploration of multiple perspectives. In such situations, relying solely on convergent thinking could limit the generation of novel ideas or innovative solutions. Therefore, it's essential to recognize when to apply convergent thinking and when to complement it with divergent thinking or other problem-solving strategies to achieve the best results</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Through this blog, it is evident that <strong>memory</strong>, <strong>thinking</strong>, and <strong>problem-solving c</strong>onstitutes the foundation of human cognition, having a profound influence on our daily lives and behavioral patterns. Memory, serving for our past experiences, not only shapes our perceptions but also informs our decision-making processes. Thinking, characterized by perception, attention, reasoning, and judgment, coordinates our cognitive processes. Meanwhile, problem-solving emerges as the mechanism through which individuals confront challenges and find strategies/solutions to solve obstacles. By exploring the complexities of memory, thinking, and problem-solving, we gain insights into the intricate mechanisms that make up human behavior, including the nuances of our thoughts, emotions, and actions<br><br><em>Extra Credit: </em>The 5 songs I know by heart:&nbsp;<br><br>1. “Head Over Boots” by Jon Pardi: This is a song I can sing without having the lyrics and it has a lot of meaning to me. It’s one of the only country songs my boyfriend likes and we listen to it together a lot making it important to us. I’ve always known this song since I was little but it resonates importance to me now.&nbsp;<br><br>2. “Got It In You” by BANNERS: This song is my senior solo song for dance this year. I’ve danced to it thousands of times and know all of the lyrics/beats. I first heard this song the summer going into my senior year when me and my choreographer were looking for songs to choreograph my senior solo to.&nbsp;<br><br>3. “Shotgun Rider” by Tim McGraw: I first heard this song in the car with my sister a few years ago. She played it at her wedding this past semester during the reception and we danced to it together. I will always resonate this song with her wedding now.&nbsp;<br><br>4. “Revival” by Zach Bryan- I heard this song a little over a year ago when I was introduced to Zach Bryan (I soon feel in love with his music and attended his concert this past March!). This song reminds me of senior year football games because at each game the student section would play it. Everyone would be singing it at the top of their lungs. I am going to miss high school fb games. I got to see this song live which was incredible.&nbsp;<br><br>5. “Never Grow Up” by Taylor Swift: Recently this song has been on replay for me. I first heard it when I was very little. It has meaning towards me because in about two weeks I will be graduating high school. I don’t want to leave and “grow up.” I wish that I could stay a teenager forever.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
