Being big sized, i find that clothes-shopping (including thrifting) is more hit-and-miss. But when I find something which fits and which looks gorgeous, that puts me on top of the world. And thus, I usually will keep my clothes for a loooong time. I still keep clothes from 20+ years ago :)

Thus, my dilemma is of an ever-expanding wardrobe. More so since i mend and repair when i can so they last for a long time.

I noticed that thrifting led me to explore tailoring clothes for myself (with some simple sewing) and they often fit even better than pieces that I used to buy off the rack. The joy from being able to tailor/value add to the original piece is also an additional experience that I don’t get from first-hand shopping.

Also, similar to the speaker, it helped me explore styles that I did not used to notice if I were just to shop in a first-hand store. And I personally think it made my fashion less homogeneous and assimilated to the latest trends.

Although I have many clothes, I consistently wear only a few of them. I'm content with this because, even after owning them for several years, they still fit me and are comfortable. Like what Christabella said, I too rather buy fewer nicer things. However, my family and friends often question why I wear the same few shirts every week, suggesting it's time to buy new clothes. I don't really find the need to buy new clothes. I only consider purchasing if my current clothes no longer fit or have any repair issues.

So, I am not sure how to communicate this effectively to them because it is not just about me but it can help the environment too after all textile waste is still quite high.

i found that in sg it’s quite hard to get rid of clothes sustainably during spring cleanings, particularly for loved and used items. for items that are still wearable, just unwanted, i’m aware that there are clothing swaps, the cloop bin and donation collections to be sold again. but what about clothes that can’t be mended, are stained and frankly out of style? what are the alternatives to just throwing it out? i used to recycle my garments at H&M as they gave a voucher as well but investigations found that most of their clothing ended up in Chile’s Antacama Desert.
