It's both a blessing and a curse: too close to Paris to attract investments, yet too far to benefit from its dynamism. The fashion landscape there is dull, and most people shop in Paris' fast fashion shopping malls. But there is an untapped demand to consume fashion differently: why do great second-hand shops and slow fashion boutiques in the area close down one after the other? Because it's not convenient! It's hard to park in the center of small towns, and it's often not worth the journey to visit just the 1 store. The same goes for cobblers, seamstresses, tailors: there are few textile professionals in the area, and they are overwhelmed with work! On the other hand, we have a huge pool of untapped skills in our countryside towns: 1st of all, our retirees. They know how to sew, they have great textile knowledge, and the time and desire to pass on their skills and help. 2nd of all, the young: there is a lack of student job or even volunteering options. A lot of young people would also love to learn more about all the crafts revolving around fashion and textiles.

You engage in discussions around fashion, around style, you buy for you but also for others, you take a break around a nice meal or coffee. My dream is thus to create a new kind of shopping mall, centered around furthering circular fashion, by gathering people who have sewing, garment, cobbling and styling knowledge to create a community in the Castle of Mormoulins. This big castle is a former holiday camp, and it was recently put up for sale. My shopping mall would include "traditional" retail stores like second-hand shops or cobblers, newer models like swapping shops but also "not for profits" like passionate retirees wanting to share their knowledge in cafes/restaurant in the castle. It would also generate social value by strengthening the social fabric in the area: retirees with an interest in fashion would pass on knowledge to younger generations, and the young would be able to work and learn locally. Given the long history of the castle as a holiday camp, it is likely we could get help from the region to get a bit of public financing so the castle stays in the local community.
