My research has included analyses of climate migration language and framing in the French written press; the conditions of production and circulation of climate migration documentary films, and more recently visual representations on YouTube (with Sarah L. Nash). I am currently collaborating and advising two filmmakers finishing a documentary about youth experiences of climate change in Fiji.

I'm a scholar in social demography and the interplay of population dynamics and socio-ecological change. I conduct research on Malthusian thinking and framing, and the political economy and ecology of migration. My research lies at the intersection of demography, human geography, political economy and ecology, with a focus on the relationship between population growth and pressure, economic development and international migration on the one hand and the political and public discourse on (climate) migration on the other. I am a columnist and the author of the book 'Consuming like rabbits. The (still persisting) Myth of Overpopulation' in which I correct the dominant narrative about overpopulation and shifts the focus to the core of the (climate) problem: overconsumption and the need for a paradigm shift. I have also been appointed as an expert in the States General for Just Transition by the Belgian Minister for Climate, Environment, Sustainable Development and the Green Deal.

I look forward to join this network and discover the work of all participants!

M: soumaya.majdoub@vub.be
