The countries have fought two wars since 1947. The countries were divided based on Hindu and Muslim majorities, which caused mass migration for those that did not live in the majorities. The first being a civil discussion between the two countries to reach a solution. This could be moderated by a third party such as the UN to coax a resolution to the long ongoing conflict between Pakistan and India. A second solution to this could be for the US or another well-developed country to provide India and Pakistan with incentives to end conflict. But, Pakistani Militants attacked Kashmir, and it sought help from India becoming an autonomous territory of India. So, India points back to this treaty as to why Kashmir should be a part of the country.
