His first school was a girls school but then moved to the Glasgow academy where he got the nickname, 'Lord Walsham'. Moved to a boarding school in 1904, because glasgow academy suggested he left due to his "bullying' behaviour. Reith then did an engineering apprenticeship bewfore moving to London against his fathers advice. There he worked for Pearson and sons but was not earning much.

Reith was the founder of the BBC and it's first general manager and director. He created both the templates for public broadcasting in Britain. He fought off politicians' attempts to influence the BBC and offered British people with programmes to educate, inform and entertain.
