Hadrian's Wall stretched for eighty miles from Newcastle (East) to Carlisle (West). It was meant to serve as a barrier and a marking of the Roman Empire. After Hadrian (a warrior) died, his successor abandoned the wall and created a new one further North called the Antonine Wall (made between the Forth and Clyde Rivers in Scotland). About twenty-two years later, the Antonine Wall was abandoned and Hadrian's Wall was once again the northern boundary of the Roman Empire.

When the Romans came to Britain, there wasn't really a clash of belief systems. Local gods were merged with Roman gods instead (AKA syncretism). No one really knows exactly when Christianity was introduced to Britain, but it became more popular in the 4th century, after the conversion of emperor Constantine, in 312 AD. Villas and temples were then decorated with christian icons and figures.
