In my research I realized that fairytales are usually intended for young children as a source of comfort and escape from the real world. One of my sources mentioned at this developing time a child's mind is very impressionable and these stories mould their minds. Female are taught at a very young age that the prince charming will come and save them. They will get their happily ever after if they maintain their physical beauty, follow the rules, and stay in their ‘place’. These fairytales in the articles present a reoccuring theme; the theme of the beautiful damsel in distress. Many females in western society are introduced to the concept of beauty at a very young age. Fairytales, introduce the idea of femininity, beauty and their roles in shaping gender roles. Typically most people are familiar with the Disney fairytales as they are child-friendly, however, they are usually introduced at an age where they are very impressionable. This essay will examine how advertisements use the stereotypical standard of beauty perpetuated in fairy tales to make money off of women's insecurities when comparing them to the ‘perfect’ fairy tale heroine. Stories such as Dineys’ Snow White, Cinderella, sleeping beauty, as well as the Grimm brothers’ little snow white and Ash girl as well as several secondary sources will be used to analyze the influence of these advertisements. Without these products she is perhaps, only ordinary. Some of these articles use readings such as Snow White and modernized versions of Cinderella.where physical beauty was an important aspect of the story. I found that it was difficult to examine the element of beauty in fairy tales and connect that to advertisements without touching on how it has affected society. In essence I will further be learning and exploring how the use of fairy tales in advertisements affected and moulded the ideals of female beauty standards
