My name is Kendall Shands and I am a freshman at NCAT majoring in Animal Science. Being in a military family I was always moving around from NC, to Kansas, Hawaii, Korea, but we were mostly stationed here in North Carolina.

Since I was a child I have always been fascinated with animals their behavior, their lifestyle and them in general. Growing up I went to zoos, aquariums, I even grew up with four dogs and I now own a hedgehog. My life goal is to be able to go either go to vet school and major in exotic or big animals, but if I am not able into vet school I would love to work at Georgia Aquarium with their belugas or dolphins.

I am the youngest of 3 half siblings, two of my siblings are in the army along with my father and my sister is in college for nursing. Out of us I am the only one going into college for animals because ever since I was a child I have been a fan of horseback riding and taking care of horses. I love traveling and exploring new places even if it was military involved or a simple vacation with my family. Going into animals I own two dogs along with a hedgehog which brings my love of exotic animals.

A memorable event for me in my life had to be graduation. Because of Covid and other circumstances in my life I always thought that graduation would be years in the making but it was not, once junior year hit life began to move faster and faster until senior year came then the end. Being able to make friends, make connections with teachers, it was amazing and to be able to close off my highschool year with my best friends even if we lost one to suicide we had to keep going for him.Growing together was an amazing aspect and now we are still going to our potentials.
