LESSON 1 -> How to study: this is what I do now and what I used to do in the past.

I think I’m still learning how to study properly.

In high school, I was used to memorizing everything, storing hundreds of information that I forgot the next day.

Since I’ve been in college, I’ve been using techniques to improve my study.

Foremost, I always study in quiet places (like, for example, in the library) and I divide my study days into 45/60-minute study sessions and 10/15-minute breaks. This helps me stay focused longer.

I also learned the importance of keeping up with the program; Studying everything at the last minute is definitely counterproductive.

The first thing I do when I start studying for an exam, is to organize my study (for example, I decide how many days a week to study); I then divide the subject into macro-topics and, after a careful reading of the material, I make concept maps that help me to orient myself.

It helps me a lot to imagine that I am a professor and have to explain the subject to a class, or imagine that I am on the exam and have to answer the questions of the professor.

LESSON 2 -> How to improve memory: this is what I do and how I want improve.

I always thought that my memory worked in a strange way: I remember what color was the shirt of the girl sitting in front of me in the tram, but I never remember the exact date of the discovery of America.
In the past, I tried to improve my memory and my concentration, also using some supplements that are often advertised. That didn’t help me.
I also tried to use some tricks to improve my memory, such as singing. I remember an episode of Hannah Montana in which the protagonist, to take the exam, had to learn the name of all the bones of the human body; to be able to memorize everything, she wrote a song. I tried too, but I failed.
I also tried to use word association to remember an idea or concept, but it didn’t work.
I’ve only recently discovered that what works with me are images; I think it’s called visual or photographic memory. Associating an image or making a map of the topic I’m studying helps me a lot to remember the concepts. Even when I’m in class, I find it easier to follow the professor’s explanation if there are slides.

LESSON 6 -> Where is your happy place? Why is it your happy place?

My happy place can be described as the company of the people I love, not a specific location. This suggests that my greatest source of happiness and contentment is the love and companionship of the people I feel close to. Whether it's spending time with my family, friends, or significant others, being in the presence of those I care about is what brings me the most joy.
This perspective on happiness highlights the importance of relationships and human connections in our lives. It suggests that it's not necessarily the place that matters, but rather the people we are with. This way of thinking prioritizes the quality of our relationships over material possessions or external circumstances, and it's a reminder that the people we love are a valuable and precious part of our lives.
In a world where people often focus on achieving success and acquiring material goods, it's important to remember that relationships and connections with others can be just as fulfilling, if not more so. By valuing the company of those you love, you have a source of happiness that is always with you, no matter where you are.

LESSON 13 -> Important aspects of communication, especially intercultural communication.

Today we live in a world where everything is connected: we can be physically distant, but now the means at our disposal allow us to reach people, places and things thanks to technology.
Man is the social animal par excellence: through communication, he has violated physical and mental barriers.
Communicating means, in a few words, transmitting something to others.
And today, communication is increasingly important.
Communication concerns not only verbal language, but also non-verbal and para verbal language. For effective communication, it is important that these three types of language are aligned.
Effective communication is the basis of many marketing strategies, sales strategies, religions, organizations, etc.
One of the most important aspects of communication is knowing how to listen and understand what our interlocutor communicates to us; in this way, we can respond appropriately.
We have also seen how in the interculturale communication, it is very important to know and understand the uses and customs of the culture with which I am relating. If I do not inquire about this, I risk misunderstanding sayings or attitudes.
Communication is also influenced by the context (space and time) and obviously by the interlocutors.

LESSON 14 -> Face saving strategies: what they are and how my friends and I use them.

Face-saving strategies are actions or tactics that individuals use to maintain their self-esteem and avoid losing face, or the respect and positive image they have in the eyes of others. Face-saving strategies are commonly used in social and professional interactions when individuals feel that their image or reputation is being challenged or threatened.

Some common face-saving strategies include things like minimising the situation, blaming others, excuses, apologies and humor.

Individuals use face-saving strategies in different ways depending on their personal and cultural background, the situation they are in, and their goals. Some may use these strategies proactively to avoid negative outcomes, while others may use them reactively in response to a challenging situation. Effective use of face-saving strategies can help individuals maintain positive relationships, avoid conflicts, and preserve their self-esteem.
The use of strategies like these in my group of friends often depends on the situation and its composition.

If the level of intimacy between the friends in question is strong and long-lasting, face-saving strategies could refer to a playful attitude and a way to not take us too seriously.
The situation is different when we find ourselves in the company of an outsider who enters the group, in that case, we try not to be overly oppressive or dictatorial among ourselves and generically more polite when we exchange requests. We do this in order to avoid awkward topics and situations in the conversation.
