My personal philosophy is to always treat people with the same care and compassion you would take with your own family, this way I know I am always always giving people the best care possible. I keep this ideal at the centre of all decisions I make.

My personal philosophy is to remember that the patient I see in front of me is a member of a family, a mother, father, daughter, brother etc. I strive to ensure that I treat all of those in my care as I would wish my loved ones to be treated if ever they were ill and being looked after by another.

My nursing philosophy is to 'treat people how you want to be treated' by maintaining a humanistic approach in providing compassionate, non-judgmental care to all individuals no matter their gender, age, race, beliefs or background. I will try my absolute best to do what is right for my patients and work on their behalf.

The reason I have enjoyed working within healthcare for 17 years is because I care.... simple, cheesy if you like? However in all honesty it's the truth.

The reward for showing kindness to a patient is immeasurable, there is no better feeling than seeing the smile on a patients face after you have kept a promise and put them first that day, showing them you do care, they do matter and giving them respect, time and your attention is integral to being a good nurse.

A simple task like changing a bed makes all the difference, who doesn't like a clean well made bed!! Then to go home knowing you have made a difference, usually after a very trying and challenging shift. This is for me the best feeling ,this is my philosophy... Simple but true 'It's nice to be nice'.

Many of the comments already posted here mirror my thoughts exactly.
I aspire to be a thoughtful caring nurse who treats her patients and those in her care with the same degree of respect and compassion that I would want afforded to my loved ones and I.
Too often we hear stories of nurses who haven't got the time or patience to sit and just talk with those in their care. At the moment, as a student, I have the time to do this, and if I can make just one person feel cared for and valued during a shift, then I go home contented. I would love to be able to do this also when I am qualified, and hope that I stay true to my beliefs in the face of short staffing and cutbacks to services.

Catherine Parr

My personal philosophy is to treat people who would want to be treated....how you would want your loved ones to be treated. There is no harm in being kind, showing love and compassion, showing commitment and most important of all communication. As a student and when I go on placement I always try to go to each bay and greet the patients, introduce myself and just to see a smile on their faces makes me smile. I always believe that what goes around comes around!
Dionne Mckop Jan 17
