Hook: Imagine being a slave, a young boy or girl working day and night on a field with little food and clothes.
Background information: Those days, in the 1800's were very tough even for a strong and intelligent boy like Frederick Douglass. Frederick Douglass was born in Maryland on February 14, 1818. As soon as he was born he was sold to slavery and was forced to work. Although he had a good mistress he soon began to realize how slavery affected not only the slaves but the slave holders as well. For that reason Douglass devoted his life to abolish slavery. In order to do this, he made a book called: Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave. This book made by himself, was released in 1845.
Thesis statement:Along with the use of figurative language and variety of grammar, Douglass uses his life experience and story to reveal the effects of slavery on slaves and slave owners, which supports his position to abolish slavery.
