Gay Rights by Katie Collins

I'm very passionate about this topic because my best friend is gay and a whole lot more of my friends are apart of the LGBTQ community. I'm interested to find out all of the different opinions out there from different people and why they are For or Against gay equality. I am obviously For gay equality but I respect the opinion of those who aren't and I'd like to understand why they believe/think that gay equality is wrong and I'd like to learn other beliefs and thoughts from those who are For gay equality and why they support it.

Who: Lesbain, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (or questioning their sexuality) (LGBTQ)

When: People in the LGBTQ community have always been around so... Forever

Where: LGBTQ people are common everyday people who live in all parts of the world.

What: LGBTQ are people who are either Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Queer (or Questioning their sexuality). The history of LGBTQ peoples and cultures around the world dates back to the first recorded instances of same-sex love and sexuality of ancient civilization. The people in the LGBTQ community just want to be equal to everyone else and have the same rights as everyone.

Why: This matters to me because there's already so much hate in the world and I think that people should be allowed to be with whoever they want to be with and be happy and be equal and have the same rights that everyone else has. The LGBTQ community are normal everyday people like you and me so why should they be treated like they're not. I believe that everyone should be treated as equals and everyone should be accepted for who they are because no one is perfect and we have no right to judge anyone else. Equality is very important to me and I believe that there is only progress coming in the future.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_history

I love that you're passionate about this topic and I completely agree with you, I also have the same questions like why people think its wrong to have gay equality. Gay people have feelings just like any normal person they feel sad and hurt when people discriminate against them. I also have 2 gay best friends that I have known since elementary school and just recently they told me how they hate when people are hateful and push them away from doing things for being gay. I do have to disagree with you on you being able to respect people that don't want gay equality. I think those people should get no respect at all they're just ignorant and have such a conservative mentality. From your positive 2 the writer David decided to stop fighting gay marriage and help strengthen it, that's really impressive. Do you want more people to stop being against gay rights or are you comfortable with the way things are now?

Hey Tania,

Thank you for the feedback. I think you misunderstood me about respecting people against gay equality... I don't respect people for being against gay equality, I choose to respect their opinions because they're allowed to have their own thoughts and opinions about it even if I don't agree with them. I agree that those people are ignorant and have conservative mentalities but that's probably not entirely their fault... how they were raised has a lot to do with how they think/feel about gay equality. And to answer your question... yes of course I want more people to stop being against gay rights/equality, I wish everyone would support LGBT people and people could just be accepted for who they are. And I'm not comfortable with the way things are now because the way things are now just aren't right. No one has the right to take away someone else's happiness and rights because they don't like that person for who they are. LGBT people just want to be equal and live their own lives however they want and they should absolutely be able to do that without the hate and judgment. I hope that someday everyone will be accepting of everyone no matter what/who they are and people learn to hate (and be against) the people that deserve to be hated

I absolutely love this picture. I think it works perfectly for this topic because it shows two people in love and that's all that matters. You can't tell what gender they are or what their sexual orientation is and it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that they're in love and happy and that's how everyone should see LGBT because they are just like everyone else and their love for one another is no different than the love between a straight couple so why should they be discriminated against and hated on for being in love just like anyone else.

I love you picture that you have decided to use. You cant see the gender or the skin color or any physical imparments that would be looked at or judged in society. To me the picture represents that we shouldn't judge someone by who they love or what they do. we should embrace them and support them in every decision that they make in life. because after all its there life not ours. But the main reason that I love this picture is because it shows that we are all human and we cant help who our heart loves. they say that god has a plan for us, and if his plan was for you to love someone of the same gender then all power to you. We shouldn't judges people on there sexual preference just because we don't like it, its wrong.

"A world so hateful, some would rather die than be who they are" -Macklemore

I chose this quote from Macklemore's song Same Love. I wish I could have put the whole song as my quote because it's such a powerful song. I chose this quote because I think it's so messed up that this is actually true for some people. I don't understand why someone could hate someone else for who they are and who they love. I mean how can you hate love? I think this quote works for my topic because there are a lot of LGBT people out there who are so afraid to be who they are or are hated on so much that they would consider killing themselves for it (or actually do it). I can't begin to imagine how that would feel and I wish no one felt that way and I just can't understand how someone could hate someone else so much over something as amazing as love. Everyone should be themselves and not have to be afraid to do so. The world is such a messed up place and it is truly sad.

I read through the R1 posts and I think everyone had a lot of good points and good responses to the D1 posts. I think everyone in this cohort agrees that LGBT people are just like everyone else and should be able to love and get married to whoever they want and the gender of the two people shouldn't matter. I agree with Miaysha on her R1 post. She said "they aren't going to change for anyone and aren't hurting others so gay marriage should be legal" and I totally agree because they really aren't going to change for anyone else so people should just accept them for who they are besides they aren't bothering other people or hurting others by being in love with the same sex as them. It makes no sense that LGBT people are hated on for being themselves and people just need to learn to accept them for who they are.

I completely agree with you and the quote/song you used. The amount of LGBT people that commit suicide is far to high and the world still won't change. This song has such a real way of explaining how bad things really are, my favorite line is "
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!". The world is so dark and messed up it doesn't even realize how it's effecting the innocent. Like you said before, I can't believe people hate because they aren't the same as everybody else. We shouldn't judge, we have no right to judge, and we can't change people.

i think the reason why change their is because some think you have to be the same sex as your partner so you can really enjoy the relationship. Also to dress like the sex they wont to be. For an example the girl dress like dudes and the dudes dress like girl. Also people did it because they are not finding a relationship with the opposite sex so the tend to have better relationship with the same sex. I have a guy friend he is gay and he told me one time that when he was dating girl something was not feeling right then he start to question his self about if he like boys. He told me when first started it it was crazy and fun and all this other stuff. That is how he find out he liked boys and he also once he gets older and get enough money he is going to transform himself into a girl fully. I support him. I dont have a problem with any gay,bi, or transgender person but i just hate how they get treated.

I think that because people are so attached to religion which tends to not support the LGBT scene as much. When people realize it's just a difference in the coding of DNA and stop treating it like a disease we might actually start to get somewhere.

I believe people change their genders, because thats what makes them happy. Its likely the people changing their identity don't feel comfortable. So they take the next step into becoming who they truly are.

I think that people say or think this because some people are straight for most of their lives and then come out as LGBT. If they were LGBT, wouldn't they be LGBT earlier on in their lives?

How would you feel if you uncomfortably walked around everyday wearing something you don't like and as much as you want to take it off and wear what you're comfortable in, you can't. You'd feel like people would judge you, talk badly about you for simply doing what makes you feel better. My metaphor does not equate to how a transgender person feels but in essence they want to change their gender because they don't feel comfortable in their skin. They don't feel like they're in the right body, they're not happy and they should be able to do what is best for themselves. This is not something someone can just pray away or wish, it's who they are and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The idea of someone changing their gender can be very confusing for many people. Overall, if a born-female wants to be called a male, call them that and be respectful. If a born-male wants to be called a woman, call them that and be respectful.
