The 3 dimensions of the Australian Curriculum are 'Learning Areas', 'General Capabilities' and "Cross-curriculum Priorities'. 3 things i learnt from these are what the cross-curriculum priorities where, what learning areas are linked with the sustainability strand and more about the individual general capabilities. 2 things i found interesting was the change in name of the ICT capability to now being called 'Digital Literacy' and that the cross curriculum priority of 'Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander histories and culture' is embedded across all learning areas and subjects. 1 thing i wish to know more about is still the cross-curriculum priorities and how them are embedded into the different learning areas.

The Australian Curriculum is a three dimensional curriculum comprising of three distinct areas. These areas are:
- Learning Areas
- General Capabilities
- Cross Curriculum Priorities

A key concept that I have learnt about is that the curriculum is much more complex and intricate than I once thought. Many areas link to each other through all different forms of integration in classroom settings. A key example of this would be a link between a general capability such as critical and creative thinking and its like to a cross curriculum priority such as sustainability. These links, embedded learning and complexity in the curriculum have been fascinating to learn about.

One question I still have is how do you effectively incorporate such complicated capabilities in an effective and engaging way in a classroom environment? How do you keep students engaged with the curriculum and learning without overwhelming them?

The Australian Curriculum is constructed in three dimensions which are:
- 8 Learning Areas
- 7 General Capabilities
- 3 Cross-Curriculum Priorities.
3 Things I Learned:
1. The curriculum isn't as straightforward as I once thought, it has multiple links throughout it.
2. More knowledge of the general capabilities
3. More information about how the cross-curriculum priorities link to the learning areas.
2 Things I Found Interesting:
1. The name change of ICT Capability to Digital Literacy
2. The links between Intercultural Understanding and Ethical Understanding
1 Question I have:
- How do you successfully imbed the cross-curriculum priorities as often as possible without overwhelming not only your students but yourself as the teacher?

After watching the videos about the 3 dimensions of the Australian Curriculum I learn’t that there is actually an area in the Australian Curriculum that displays the key connects a learning area has with certain general capabilities and cross curriculum priorities, that level descriptions state where a students should be in different years and that the cross curriculum priorities are to keep content current and relevant. Two things I found interesting was how the content descriptions and achievement standards are the core to teacher planing and that the ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and culture’ are connected to all learning areas. My overall question would be how can all the 3 dimension of the Australian Curriculum work in a classroom?

I learnt there are many sub-strands within the learning areas i.e. HASS is comprised of humanities and social sciences, civics and citizenship, economics etc.

Two things I found interesting:
1. I found it interesting that each learning area follows a similar format despite covering such different content
2. I found it interesting that not all general capabilities will be taught in all learning areas, only in ones that it can be introduced authentically and meaningfully

One question I have
1. What would a lesson look like that incorporated all three dimensions of the curriculum? Would it look the same across all subjects?

Rather, they are meant to be integrated into the subject and curriculum to further enhance learning
• There are learning areas that are comprised of sub-learning areas, such as the Humanities and Social Sciences, which includes Civics and Citizenship, Economics and History, and Geography and History
• The Australian Curriculum is divided up into three dimensions - two of these dimensions exist to enrich learning and to ensure the content is relevant to our current world

2 things I found interesting
• While some general capabilites are straightforward (e.g. Numeracy in mathematics, Literacy in English), they are developed with the learning areas in mind, and are only included when they are meaningful and enhance the content.
• The Languages learning area contains global languages such as French and Korean, but also contain languages and content relevant to Australia and Australia's history, such as Auslan and frameworks for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. On top of that, it also includes classical languages such as Latin

1 thing I would like to ask
How are cross-curriculum priorities utilised in a organic and seamless way in learning areas, especially in subjects that might appear more rigid and less based in current affairs, such as Mathematics or Health and P.E.?
