The first thing the Ethos reminds me of is the Competency Behaviour Indicators (performance). But it also reminds me of the following:
- why I do what I do - I love kids and I want to impact the next generation to be better
- if I stop growing today, I stop teaching tomorrow - I need to keep updating IOS to be relevant as a teacher and as a teacher leader
- integrity - the importance of upholding moral values and professional excellence
- it takes a village to raise a child - the need to collaborate with others

The Ethos guides me in role modelling to my colleagues how I should interact with the students. The Ethos reminds me that I should always be mindful that every child is different and has intrinsic worth and I should never write-off any child just because he/ she has difficulty mastering my subject.

The Ethos guides me in role modelling to my colleagues how I should approach professional development. The Ethos highlights the importance of continuous professional development. The Ethos reminds me that teachers continue to develop ourselves so that our we can enhance students' learning. It serves as a good reference point for me to make sense and understand my personal and professional identity and be aware of how my own identity is manifested in my interactions with fellow colleagues, students and different stakeholders.

The Ethos also provide a good landing point for me to situate my actions and its purpose. Like the compass, it steers me away from mindlessly doing things and to go above the 'operations' of things to better understand how it is aligned with the ethos and help me move forward in my teaching journey.

Similarly, these would also be applied in my dialogues with teachers as i guide or mentor them in their teaching journey.

The Ethos is a good reminder and compass to me as a teacher to my students and a teacher leader to my fellow teachers - placing our students at the core centre of what we do and why we do. I'm being reminded to pass on the love of learning to students but also being a lifelong learner myself, then leading to build a community of learners, enhancing our own knowledge first and then others. As teachers and teacher leaders, continue to be good role models and uphold our professionalism.

We are all guided by certain principles and philosophy in our daily lives. The Ethos serves as a moral compass that all teachers can align ourselves so we can be on the same platform where we guide students and fellow teachers based on trust and integrity. The Ethos also help to guide me in my professional development by continuing to collaborate and work with others to ensure that I can have a positive impact for my students.

Education is no longer about filling our students’ with knowledge. It is about the nurturing our students to be the best that they can be. Developing our students in character as well as other domains, teaching them to be caring and responsible members of the family and community, preparing them for the future are what we, as educators, need to do and schools are where all these will be carried out.

As a teacher leader, my responsibility is to guide the teachers in my school to be educators who will develop the character of the students we teach and prepare them for the future. I would use the Ethos of the Teaching Profession as the basis of discussion in mentoring conversations. Regular discussion with reference to the Ethos will help to establish, among the teachers, a common understanding of our Philosophy, Desired Outcomes, Vision, Pledge and Creed which will guide us in what we do.

I must always be professional in my views and actions and not let emotions overcome me. I need to be respectful and be respected at the same time.
