As I read Grendel my thought of how he looked completely changed from a dragon like monster to a wicked looking human being with sinister thoughts. They mention how he lurks in the forest such as Grendel said in Annotation #2 "dark shadow out of the woods below ... ". I also see Grendel having this evil look in his eyes almost like he's ready to attack, which he eventually did, eating whatever he caught raw . Grendel seems like the crazy guy who doesn't sleep, in the image the guy seems to have dark circles which is another facial feature Grendel might also have. As years past eleven going on twelve to be exact as the epic states Grendel must have aged so I imagine him being more on the aged side with a stubble maybe even a beard.

I feel like Grendel would listen to Three Days Grace but would identify with their song "Animal I've Become". Grendel would seem the type of guy that would like to listen to rock type music, especially if the song includes anti-social type lyrics. The title itself would be something Grendel himself can see, he has become a monster in the eyes of the villagers. I feel that the lyrics

"I can't escape myself
(I can't escape myself)
So many times I've lied
(So many times I've lied)
But there's still rage inside
Somebody get me through this nightmare
I can't control myself"

can really relate to Grendel all the people never gave him a chance and many people don't know of his interaction with Hrothgar and his men. Grendel for years has been suffering with the death of his father. In his mind he thinks its only fair for him to murder Hrothgar's men.

In the song they say " No one will ever change this animal I have become" which i think happened to Grendel. There's always a first to everything, right? I'm sure when Grendel killed his first victim it was hard but at time went by kill 1 guy was a piece a cake let alone 5. Grendel grew to like the feeling of taking peoples lives.

I decided to post Hasan Williams Gif on darkness. Hasan is in 4th period, and I thought his Gif and explanation relating to darkness was exactly what i had in mind. The "monster" you see aka mama is something that I would imagine lurking out at night waiting to attack you. Darkness is always seen as a scary thing. Its a time for all evil to come out such as Hasan stated, the children only see mama at night when they go to bed.

The article talks about the symbolism and the land politics in Beowulf. They also mention how the poem is one of the earliest stories that we know of in Northern Vernacular language. Lets start of with the Great mead-hall. The Mead-hall is a place where Hrothgar's men celebrate, drink and just have a grand time, but also a place to have ceremonies also was know for an early version what today is known as a court, thus making the Mead-Hall a symbol of community, socially and politically.

Grendel's home, what Grendel sees as his home others see as a wasteland or as a place that you never want to visit. another forbidden place that no person would ever want to go is the dragon's lair. The dragons lair might be filled with great treasure. But who is the dragon? Grendel's mother ! Beowulf did manage to slay the dragon but at the same time got himself killed, but still managed to order his men to search for the treasure that was hidden in the lair.

Throughout the poem we see that a specific theme occurring frequently, the strive for land.
