         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><p><b> Congress passed with support of Jackson. </b></p></li><li><p><b>Federal government provided funds to negotiate treaties that would force the Native Americans to move west.</b></p></li><li><p><b>Cherokee tribe refused to move and fought in courts</b></p></li><li><p><b>( Although the decision became the foundation of the principle of tribal sovereignty in the twentieth century, it did not protect the Cherokees from being removed from their ancestral homeland in the Southeast.)</b></p></li><li><b><span style="font-size: 13px;">Samuel Worcester, Minister in the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. 1825: sent to a Cherokee mission in Georgia, Became close to Cherokee leaders </span><br></b></li></ul><p><b>-Georgia govt. created law that stopped “white persons” from living in Cherokee lands; Worcester and other missionaries refused to move, arrested 3 times for refusing</b></p><ul><li><p><b>Worcester v.
