Which is still mostly the case. I am also very motivated to get good grades in my classes. The professors and the staff are there to help you, reach out to them for help if you need it and they will gladly help. 
2. It doesn't hurt to take notes, while reading for a class or during a lecture, it'll help keep your ducks in a row and not confuse classes. 
3. Give yourself enough time to do essays. You can write it a bit at a time and then go back and revise. 
4. Make friends in your classes. If you have to miss a lecture you can ask them what you missed and help each other with homework.
5. Don't stress so much. The first week can be scary when you get 5 new syllabuses, but the professors want you to succeed too and will work with you and help you.
