Steve claims that he didn’t fight with Mr. Nesbitt and didn’t take any money from him. In a flashback, Steve is arrested and his mother is very worried and panicked. Mrs. Petrocceli uses a cheap trick in order to leave a bad image of King and Steve in the heads of the jury. Detective Williams, Dr. James Moody and City Clerk Allen Forbes come to testify in court and Moody claims that Nesbitt drowned in his own blood. Steve is scared of having to stay in jail and is convinced that O’Brien finds him guilty. Lorelle Henry comes in court to testify against King, who she supposedly saw arguing with Nesbitt on the 22nd of December; Briggs tries to discredit her testimony. Richard Evans shows up to court in his prison uniform and says that he knew King his whole life but met Steve just before the getover. Briggs tries to make Bobo look bad and points out that he’s the only one who had confessed to committing the crime, whereas O’Brien defends Steve by highlighting the fact that Steve didn’t necessarily give any type of obvious signal.

Part 4 reminded me a bit of the book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K.Rowling, because at the end of the book, when Harry tells everyone that Voldemort has returned, the Ministry of Magic tried to make him look like a fool who was lying. This is similar to Monster, where Asa Briggs was trying his best to discredit Mrs. Henry’s testimony by making her seem like someone who was uncertain of herself and who cannot be trusted, someone who identified King only by a stroke of luck.
